Albums currently kicking your ass

.. solid album, but nothing they've done comes close to Buried Death imo

100% agree with you here man. That album is truly crushing in every sense of the word. The production itself is just fucking insane.
I'm waiting to see if anything other than this EP and The Fleshland gets a tape release.

I always come back to this album when I'm in the mood for some death metal. I'm not a fan of anything after this that I can remember, but this album rules.

Man, the Fleshland sucks. Their first three are all great though. I remember when the debut came out... was still in high school and hadn't heard much death metal past Cannibal Corpse. fucking thing blew my face off.

Yeah it was so boring and the thing about moderate death metal (eg death metal that generally keeps a mid-paced sound) is if the production isn't on point, it's like watching paint dry. It had no weight to it at all.

Was that your problem with it?

yeah i cant stand death metal records that are almost fully mid-paced. Same goes for most mid-paced thrash.

Agreed with this, a rare number of bands can pull off mid-tempo thrash or death if they have the right kind of sound and swagger, but often it's just boring as fuck.

Woah there!

Nah, in one sense I agree. Vital Remains dominate Deicide by sheer quantity and consistency imo. But the first two Deicide albums are among my all-time favourite death metal albums.

It's Metallica vs. Megadeth all over again for me.

Dechristianize used to be my favorite form them, but Forever Underground and Dawn of the Apocalypse are close. Haven't listened to them in a while. Need to give those albums a few spins to give you a more solid opinion. Let Us Pray is awsome too.

Vital Remains are far from being one of my fav DM bands .... but i'm not a fan of Deicide, so it wouldn't take much to top that band imo.

I've been blasting the Horrors of Hell compilation a lot lately (which has the Black Mass 7 inch, Excruciating Pain demo and Reduced to Ashes demo on it) since I found it on tape, but my favourite was pretty much always Forever Underground.

Crushing and evil slab of no-nonsense death metal. Let Us Prey was always the follow-up favourite.

This section confused me. The wording... Are you saying you're not much of a fan of Deicide so even though Vital Remains aren't a favourite of yours, they easily surpass Deicide because you're not a fan?
