I'm beginning to see why a lot of people aren't so enthralled with the 80s metal. Shit like this, along with the first two, but especially second Paradise Lost album, fucking slay most NWOBHM, trad and thrash.

I'm just on the third listen now and on the third listen of Swans actually. Dunno if this is their best album, but I gotta say, I really like it so far. Will certainly continue to explore their discography.

Holy Money and Greed are the best imo, although I haven't given the ones after Children of God too much time. Noisy Swans is definitely more my thing.

Homosexual.

I like "noisy Swans" but I like the most recent two ("The Seer" and "To Be Kind") even more.

I dunno, while I like my metal black as fuck, I also subscribe to the idea that something can be "fucking metal" without being metal-the-genre at all. Michael Gira screaming "YOUR NAME IS FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" over hammer(ing) dulcimers and drums and evil acoustic guitar riffs seems pretty metal to me.

I would say that the last two albums have ended the kind of melodic phase that began in the '90s. They aren't really electric, and they're very repetitive, but they're pretty noisy and violent and angry.

To Be Kind was a big surprise for me, and there are definitely some lovable songs on there. Songs like Oxygen appeal to me as much as anything they've done, even though it's in the upbeat and groovy vein of noise rock, some Massacre and Jesus Lizard vibes there (albeit with songs double or more the length). I've only listened to To Be Kind once in full so far, but I could see it being the only post-Children album to make it into semi-regular playing. The Seer hasn't really caught my interest though.

i prefer the "poppy" swans. everything from children of god up to great annihilator are damn hard to beat. soundtracks up to to be kind are too sparse and too random for my tastes, especially comparing them to what came before. i tried cop...too noisy, heh.

the world of skin's ten songs from another world is also amazing for fans of the pop era

Bahh it really pisses me off that lastfm doesn't scrobble music from my phone anymore, but here are some artists that have blown me away this past week.

Doomslaughter - Followers of the Unholy Cult

Really intense Black/Death from Belarus… possibly the best band (and probably the only band) i've heard from Belarus.

Katalepsy - Autopsychosis

Edit: Reading about this guy and he had 27 wives many of them were his dancers, backup vocals and composers. He had to keep a 12 wives at a time rotation system, to keep up with all of them.
