I have never listened to a Manilla Road album. Until recently I've never been big on any trad, power, doom, and the like. Commence shit storm and recommendations

If Crystal Logic doesnt make you sing at the top of your lungs and violently air drum/guitar then there is no hope for you. That album is a big fuckin deal.

EDIT: And Manilla Road didn't become very air drummable until Open the Gates. Crystal Logic is just a flat, boring album.

fwiw I'm not even remotely a fan of them and have only heard roughly a third of their albums in full, but I'd at least give the next one a shot. It's loaded with filler, but there's some more ambitious/less predictable stuff (The Fires of Mars is incredible). Better drumming and more aggression as well.

This. So far, anyway. I've listened to a few songs here and there but wasn't impressed. I figured maybe I'm not hearing the right songs?

The drumming on Crystal Logic is nothing special. Randy Foxe was easily the best thing to happen to them.
