I consider it a return to form, and it's beyond me how some Maiden fans piss all over such a classic record, then jerk it raw to trash like A Matter of Life and Death or Virtual XI.

Hey, I actually like Fear of the Dark though. It's better than Virtual XI definitely.

All I crapped on was your enjoyment of Virtual XI, never said you didn't have good taste otherwise.

I don't own that or NPFTD yet. I try to find them in a used bin for cheap usually only because those are the only two Maiden albums left to complete my collection.

sylvan realms got reissued not long ago, i recommend picking that up if you don't have it

I don't actually, I only have this one and have never heard Within the Sylvan Realms of Frost. How does it compare?

in terms of overall structure it isn't so far removed, but the sound is p different from the uber bassy, cavernous evil of JiD. it's trebly and keyboard-laden and aims for something more restrained, mysterious, dreamy. the production isn't the greatest immersion-wise but i might prefer it musically speaking.
