Albums currently kicking your ass

utterly ridiculous point you made.

In what way is it an utterly ridiculous point? Derivative bands almost always say in the liner notes who their influences are, Darkthrone go a step further because Fenriz says in the liner notes which riff is inspired by what and so on.
Impetigo did the exact same thing and went as far as telling you which riffs they basically lifted, unchanged, from which band they worship.

It's just a thing that happens with these derivative "worship" bands. I mean, it's not like Darkthrone ever released an album that didn't have ancestor worship at it's foundations.

Now, within that context, all I'm saying is calling a band a rip off is not justification for hating them unless you're consistent and dismiss all bands that do this. Maybe you are consistent, although you already said you like Wolf and Enforcer, so I doubt it.

And in the end my initial point was that, as usual, @H.P. Lovecraft was being an irrational old faggot towards Nirvana.

What's an Enforcer song that's basically a straight ripoff of any earlier song? There's always moments of familiarity and certainly some generic fillery stuff, but afaik they stop short of what bands like nu-Darkthrone do.

But yeah, in general the solution is to just stop listening to metal post-1994, most of it is shit.

Yeah, but you conveniently left out the part where I said that those two bands (as well as many others) do "retro metal" far better than Darkthrone. You see, my issue isn't that Darkthrone is doing it, it's that they're doing it poorly. As in, the albums are a fucking chore to listen to.

I only use Enforcer as an example because both Talos of Autist and H.P. have used them as an example of nostalgiawank music that is good.

No, I watch homemade grainy candid camera porn. Totally different.

Well okay, I don't understand why that required you to go full retard.

Yeah, fine. @CASSETTEISGOD It's worth mentioning that I respect you but I just find latter-era Darkthrone to be horrendously dull and the disproportionate levels of praise they receive for those albums is eyeroll-inducing.

ANYWAY...

Actually I have to admit that Eyes Burst at Dawn song sounds pretty damn good, it's speed metal-y but definitely a little more to it, getting the same vibes I got when I discovered Sabbat (Jpn) actually has good albums buried under the overrated ones.

I respect you too. [brohug]

And that's fair enough, Darkthrone's newer material certainly does seem pretty overrated. I think Fenriz's songs don't go beyond just being fun, but I will stand by Nocturno Culto's songs.

Which is sad, honestly. Culto's tracks are the places where I always got my hopes up, only for them to be dashed by Fenriz's material. Speaking of which, I agree with HBB, "Eyes Burst At Dawn" is better than I remember, absolutely. Then again, Culto wrote it.

I will admit it's a shame to see a band like Darkthrone trudge the waters of cartoonery. I haven't heard their new album yet but it seems like many people who are dismissive of their newer material seem to like it.

Nocturno Culto should just take over or maybe start a new band.
