After getting the 'viking' edition (??) of Versus the World, I ended up listening to Sorrow throughout the Nine Worlds more than I did VtW. I have to say, I really like them with that raw sound - especially compared to Crusher and Avenger. Does anyone know if they remastered STtNW for the re-release? If so, I'm going to start looking for the original.

Also, I really like the continuation of that roughness on Once Sent from the Golden Hall, in particular the drumming by Martin Lopez. Some tracks even have that slight groove in the percussion, you know, you could tell he was probably itching for a band like Opeth to come along.

Any thoughts?

OK I'm going to have to entice you lot into talking about Amon Amarth, just like npearce did with those naked pictures...

Yes i totally agree. Victorious March is probably my favorite Amon Amarth song. I have the original Demo as well. good stuff that early work.

Oh I want that demo. I really like the coverart too.

My favorite Amon Amarth song is "Burning Creation". I would love to hear how that sounded on the demo. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's probably my favorite death metal song period.

I saw these guys a year or two ago, and man they fuckin ruled that night! Marduk wasn't able to get in the country and Houston was one of the last dates before the tour got cancelled.

I really enjoy The Avenger, Once..., and Sorrow Throught the Nine Worlds.

The latest has its moments, but I do not find myself pulling The Crusher off of the shelves too often.

Well, I've got "Sorrow...", "Once Sent..." and "The Avenger" and "Sorrow" is my favourite. It has a certain fluid quality that I like.

Also, I've heard MP3's of the second demo and they sound much like the album versions but rawer. Heh.

Yea the demo (2nd one) is very nice especially if you like sorrow and once sent. I got it on ebay for like $40. I probably overpaid but what the hell.

I used to own all of them, but sold Crusher and traded VS the World for some Negura Bunget. Crusher sucked. Vs the World had a few good songs, but like JayK, I listened to the bonus disc more, and I already own Sorrow THroughout, and the rest of the songs didn't justify keeping it over Negura Bunget.

I used to love Once Sent, and some songs still get my blood pumping, but I can't sit through the whole thing. Sorrow... is really good, and it's not over-long.

I only keep The Avenger for the first two songs. The Last With Pagan Blood is my favorite AA song.

That song rules, while I still listen to Versus The World more than any of their other albums, Golden Hall is excellent, and I agree with the comment about Martin's drumming...but his replacement kicks butt as well.
