Amplitube isn't so bad..

Seems a bit boomy to me. It has a cool punchy vibe to it though. I would tame the bass frequencies on the bass guitar. I split the bass guitar into two channels. I have one for the lows. Low pass at around 300hz and then compress this channel. And the other, I use a guitar amp sim with an impulse, highpassed at around 350-400hz. Then I bus them together and add some more compression.

As for mastering, I can't give much help. I know very little about it. I just put a highpass at 35hz, then "elephant" mastering limiter by voxengo. I set the threshold at about -6 and the out ceiling at -0.2. Seems to work better for me than the waves L2 or L3. It doesn't kill the drums. Then I use maybe a little bit of an exciter like the D82 sonic maximizer with minimal settings and a stereo widener.
