Fragile Dreams off Alternative 4 is their most played live song
Okay I forgot about that one but still it's just one song.

Their music is indeed very evocative and I have a lot of respect for what they do. Unfortunately for me, it's similar to Wolverine; it just depresses the hell out of me.
I enjoyed that more than any of the other Anathema songs I've heard.Au Contraire Mon Frère,
The band went from a depressing & moody era to the some of the most uplifting stuff I have ever hard in my life starting with "We're Here Because We're Here." My understanding is that the Cavanagh brothers came to grips with losing their mother and shifted gears musically & emotionally.

I checked out Alternative 4 back in the day and it just wasn't for me. I think I have Distant Satellites. I'll start there. Thanks.
I don't think I've seen you personally sell a band this hard before! I like it. I'm listening in the order you proscribed right now. That's a shitload brighter than Judgement!

It's hard to not want others to share in even a single moment of that sheer joy.
And for the record, they most certainly are intellecutal prog...just not the wanky, masturbatory kind.
Emotion is the #1 quality I look for in my music unless your last name is Buffet. While I can enjoy all kinds of bands and music, very few are able to touch my soul so to speak. The new era of Anathema does that to me. It's just so uplifting in regards to hope, dreams, and love.

Can I strongly suggest that you start with the new era in order?
1. We're Here Because We're Here
2. Weather Systems (The video clip I posted at the start is from here & one of the best songs of the last 10 years across any genre)
3. Distant Satellites
I say that because you need the positive vibes first to offset your previous wrist slitting experience and you are going to get them the most in that order.
Awesome. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll grab We're Here Because We're Here to start. Can I strongly suggest that you start with the new era in order?
