Andy Wallace's best mixes?

Sevendust's Home. The drum production is pretty raw, but the album stills sounds fucking HUGE. I really dig the way the guitars and bass are separated throughout the album, especially in "Crumbled". Sometimes, it can be cool NOT to have them gel. "Denial" is another highlight. :headbang:

I actually prefer the 1st Sevendust CD for its production. JJ French and Mark Medoza did a great job bringing the grittiness of the band out on that one.

A lot of my fav. records production-wise (and in general) were mixed by Andy Wallace :

slipknot - iowa
faith no more - king for a day, fool for a lifetime
sepultura - chaos ad
Nirvana - nevermind
jeff buckley - grace
soad - toxicity
ratm - s/t & evil empire
sevendust - home
sepultura - roots
slayer - reign in blood
staind - break the cycle

"monitors at whisper-like volumes"

how does he get the bass right? am I crazy for not being able to get a proper idea of the bass at low volumes?

Was speaking to the old drummer from The Living End some years ago and he mentioned working at a session that AW was producing. I think he mentioned a day rate in the realm of $4k.

Not sure how reliable that is, but he appeared to be reciting first hand knowledge.

Well, I suppose the rate is adequate for the end results the man produces... :kickass:

Absolutely. Tis the sort of long-term goal I've set for myself (ambitious, far out goals are the best)... if the industry doesn't collapse into a raft with a half-chewed-away paddle by the time I'm 40.

It keeps me going knowing that people who really work super hard and have the aptitude for it are still able to make a decent living from this industry.

but he aint getting 4k every day of the year right?

And i totally forgot king for a day fool for a lifetime. That album sounds Fantastic
