What mic pre's on guits do you feel are the most effective at capturing heavy tones? I have a Vintech 1272 and an API 3124. Both are great! Curious if you have a preference when tracking guits. Is one more "grainy" than another? Do you have any other suggestions? I am recording to pro tools and am getting good tones. I would like to get great tones. Also, in your opinion, is tape necessary to get great tones?

Those are real drums... not even soundreplaced...
Guits:
AT 3525 + 57 + atm25 into a vc6 and the pres on my 2524 (old Tascam console) into the 001...
I wish I had those API or 1272s

Try the Groove Tubes Vipre. A lot of different tones to work with!
