I like more recent stuff from Dream Theater, Symphony X, Silent Force, Masterplan...pretty prog metal minded stuff .What can you guys advice me to buy more ??
downloaded some samples from Evergrey, Tad Morose, Dreamscape, Wolf..
Good songs but I don't know if these are representatives of the albums? Or even wich albums to buy from wich bands...

BTW, new Ayreon en Grip inc are on the list already...

Evergrey - "The Dark Discovery".
I have all their albums but I like this one best.

Symphony X - "The Odyssey"

Thnx..

* Vision Divine - Stream Of Consciousness

Don't expect crazy or complex pieces of music. This is however still an essential prog-metal buy this year.

A really, really good singer, fantastic songs and great musicians make this an unmissable record. I highly recommend it. Here's the complete first song of their new album:

http://www.scarletrecords.it/bands/Vision%20Divine/Vision%20Divine%20-%20Secret%20of%20Life.mp3

Give it time, listen to it a few times and experience how it pulls you in.

* Sun Caged - Sun Caged

Expect crazy and complex pieces of music. I don't know if you have this record already but it was at the top of my 2003 list. Thats how good it is.
Here is their page with a few complete songs. The songs Hollow is also on the album.

http://www.suncaged.com/media_sounds.php

* Biomechanical - Eight Moons

A very agressive Geoff Tate like singer with music thats a cross between Pantera and prog-metal. Hearing is believing.

Here's quite a shitty webpage with the full track "The Awakening"

http://www.biomechanical.co.uk/music.swf

* Of course the Psychotic Waltz remasters.

This prog-techical-metal band is legendary! And rightly so, give their albums a spin when you are in the recordshop, who knows, you may like them. You can not be "just a fan" when it comes to Psychotic Waltz. Their music is so intense that fans are ready to travel the world when a reunion will become a reality. With these re-released remasters you get 2 albums for 19 Euro and thats a steal.

Thats all I can think of now.

Spastic Ink - "Ink Compatible" (2004)
Gordian Knot - "Emergent" (2003)
Derek Sherinian - "Black Utopia" (2003)

Have you ever check Helreid, Acid Rain, Shadow Gallery, Dali's Dilemma, Explorers Club, Bozzio/Levin/Stevens?

All of them good suggestions!

Wow, the almighty Hawk never ceased to surprised me. In most forums I'm the only "wacko" who had ever heard those bands. How did you get Acid Rain? Mine was a struck of luck (and good Spanish

Eldritch hell yeah, but stay away from their "Reverse" nu-album. The other ones are all recommanded :) I'd pick "Headquake" or "El Nino", as IOTS said.

Lanfear : The Art Effect
Released last year, it's the best power prog metal album I've heard for years! Awesome voice somewhere between Geoff Tate and DC Cooper, wonderful atmospheres enlightened by brilliant musicianship and monster riffs.

Evergrey : any album! How about the latest one, The Inner Circle.
Emotional proggy metal, very original and intense.

Biomechanical : Eight Moons
The production sucks quite a bit but the songwriting is totally unique! Avant-garde modern atmo prog power/thrash?
If Strapping Young Lad and Queensryche had a child, he would be called Biomechanical :loco:

Tad Morose : Modus Vivendi or Matters of the Dark or Undead
Power metal with balls and emotion, no tralala melodies ;)

Angel Dust : Enlighten the Darkness
Another personal favorite from the latest years, not that prog but so original and catchy at the same time!

Manigance : Ange ou Démon
Kinda heavier version of Vanden Plas meets Pretty Maids, featuring more traditional metal roots. Some prog influences as well. Sung in french, and well sung ;)

ShadowKeep : A Chaos Theory
old Queensryche meets Crimson Glory meets old Fates Warning meets Maiden, etc. Well done old school heavy/prog.

Archetype : Dawning
Awesome US prog metal, quite aggressive stuff with vox ala Mat Barlow (Iced Earth) but more diverse, and even more diverse songwriting, these guys are crazy :loco:

@ Hawk : I thought Vision Divine played typical italian "happy metal"? I saw them live 2 years ago and.... well, good singer but nothing proggy or special. And very annoying endless keyboard solos if you ask me :D
Maybe they've changed a lot since I last saw them.

erm ..... Gonna have to sell a car to buy 'm all I think ... but it's a good starter to know I'm gonna buy some GOOD CD's !!

:) your welcome.

Do you ever shop at that recordshop near Biebop in Vosselaar?

As I said, I'm out of the circuit some years now, haven't visited the Biebop for years any more, although I live close by (I live about 50 minutes from Eindhoven, town called Balen, near Lommel and Mol) ...Mol, remember , where the guys of "Sucks" magazine came from , here's one of them ...

I believe you and I can see why you are surprised. As was I when I heard this album of them. They have a new singer and a new style. Gone is the happy happy metal. This is serious and beautifull! Great songs, great singer, great album.

Surprise yourself and go and listend to it, you may even like it.

Aha. OK I see. You do know that I originate from Eindhoven? I can;t remember I ever read Sucks magazine. Although I heard about it.

Yeah, I think you told somewhere before you come from Eindhoven... Sucks started around 1980-81. I don't have the mags any more but a friend can lend me some, maybe I'll show 'm to you once.
later on I worked for "Metal Eruption" magazine, pretty underground as was Metal at that time...

Checked out the MP3's...I'm not really struck by it...too "soft" and vocals aren't that good in my opinion...

Alright, most people I know in boards didn't like them. I was impressed that actually anybody knows them.

If you want something heavy then check:

Moon Of Steel - "Insignifican Details"
Radakka - "Requiem For The Innocent"
Conception - "Flow"
Adramelch - "Irae Melanox"
Imperium - "Too Short A Season"

And most definitive one of the best band of the moment Manigance (from France) both "Ange Ou Demon" and "D'Un Autre Sang" are awsome albums.

Tad Morose ripped my fucking head off !! Great band, but they are not prog. There are a few prog tendencies, but it's more like powerful power metal. I strongly suggest the newest release "Modus Vivendi."
Another is Vanden Plas "Beyond Daylight." Vanden Plas is better at melody than power, but they can rock when they need to. If you like melodic metal, other bands just aren't as good. I think they are one of the best melodic/progressive bands out there.
Wolf is also a very good band. I like their first release which is self titled. ANother good band is Pagans Mind. They only have two discs out, but their second disc shows that this band could be capable of anything. NOt a bad song on the disc. "Celestial Entrance" is the title.

It's time to ask your boss for a raise of salary :D

Damn I forgot Conception, Parralel Minds is one of my favorite prog metal albums ever.
