Hey dudes and dudetters

Hypothetical situation which you could actually decide to carry out: you're ordered to make your fellow Maiden Downunder-ers better people by giving them a list of ten CDs that you think they MUST listen to. Not your usual bunch of top CDs, but CDs of bands that you doubt they've heard before, because, like, everyone's heard Appetite for Destruction and Master of Puppets and Led Zeppelin IV and Paranoid.

So, ten CDs that you're not sure people here have heard, ten CDs that may be classics in your eyes but many may be unaware of.

Do it.

One day Gore... One day ;)

I'd tell everyone who hasn't heard Queens A Night at the Opera to go and buy it immediately. Brilliant from start to finish. I heard Seaside Rendevouz on the radio yesterday and had a craving to hear the whole album again but I let a mate borrow it a few months ago and he fell in love with it and decided to keep it :(

I'd tell Blitzy to get The Perfect Elephant and Remedy Lane immediately. I'd tell Spiff to get Entropia.

I'd tell Pink Floyd/good melodic music fans to check out Marillions Misplaced Childhood.

I'd tell Spiff and all Beatles fans to get onto mike portnoys website and order the Yellow Matter Custard Beatles Tribute cd and DVD. Amazing. The Led Zep Hammer of the Gods tribute (With Portnoy, Paul Gilbert and Daniel Gildenlow :worship: should be released soon).

The Tea Party - The Edges Of Twilight - everyone needs to hear this album. It didn't used to be my favourite of theirs, but I think it has crept to the top. Amazing band, awesome album. Experimental rock with middle eastern type elements, and a singer that would easily pass for Jim Morrison. Rock.

Amorphis - Tuonela - this was recommended to me from Koich, and it is great. Awesome band. Another experimental one that is cool for mood, but they dabble in the death vocals and more metal stuff.

Death Angel - The Art Of Dying - recommended to me from Gore. Awesome thrash album that I can't stop getting into. I love it so much, one of the next things on my list is their Archives And Artifacts box set.

Grim Reaper - The Best Of - great fun 80s heavy metal, but not entirely cheesey. They have a glamish sound for a heavy metal band, kinda like Crue playing songs with more metalish lyrics than glam. Awesome.

Cradle Of Filth - Nymphetamine - awesome extreme metal album, the best I have heard from Cradle, though I don't have all their stuff yet. The vocals are even better then on their other stuff.

Amon Amarth - Versus The World - speaking of awesome extreme metal, this is probably the most manly metal album I have ever heard, and I love it even more now that I have seen them really deliver some of the material from it live. Death In Fire is one of the best brutal songs ever.

Within Temptation - The Silent Force - kind of like a Euro Evanescence, but more metal and little less commercial...less Linkin Park. They were awesome live, and this album has heaps of good material on it, very solid. Recommended to Spruce and Spawny at least.

Kreator - Enemy Of God - I assume anyone who is interested in this will have already heard it, but for anyone curious, it is awesome thrash and prossibly my album of the year so far. Awesome.

Dio - Strange Highways - I haven't gone on about this one for a while, but you all still need to check it out! Dio playing serious material with an awesome sound, killer.

Queens Of The Stone Age - self titled - for something different I'll throw this in there. Great stoner rock really...some of their later stuff has catchier songs, but this is a good album to just kick it to some stoner rock. A best of would be best for this band though, as they have a lot of quality material spread over their albums which is padded out with a bit of crap. Good album though.

That will do.

Ooh, I might get it then. Is there any need to have the CD if you have the DVD?

Not unless you want to be able to play it in a cd player :)

Its the same thing except the cd doesn't have the between song banter or the audio commentary and backstage extra footage and rehearsals.

Its quite cheap. Is region free but you have to be able to play NTSC.

Sound quality is excellent. Video quality is on about 4 or 5 handhelds, but it is great as well.

Highly reccomended for all Beatles fans.

Highlights are Gilberts absolutely fucking amazing solo on While my guitar, Neal Morses vocals during Oh Darling and a great version of A Day in the Life.

Damn. Portnoy has done it again. Just this weekend he announced his special show for some drum things 20th anniversary:

Mike Portnoy with Cygnus & The Sea Monsters (A Tribute to Rush - featuring Paul Gilbert, Sean Malone and Jason McMaster)

So far he has done Beatles, Led Zep and now rush... all with Paul Gilbert. This should see a dvd release as well. Awesome

Sigur Ros - ( )
Chris Vrenna - American McGee's Alice score/soundtrack
Type O Negative - October Rust
Extreme - Extreme II Pornograffiti

I'll get back to you on the rest.

apparently the score/soundtrack to Temptation of Christ by Peter Gabriel is one of the best albums ever. I haven't heard it though.

Top album, that. I wouldn't say they "dabble" in death vocals, seeing as they used to just have death vocals on earlier albums, but I get your meaning.

Nah, dawg, I just rip the DVD audio to mp3 and bung it on the iRiver. :) Well, I would if I could find a DVD audio ripper that lasted more than 30 days. Gah.

Something simple and mind numbing,

Spineshank-Self Destructive Pattern
3 Inches of Blood-Advance and Vanquish, Trad metal back with a funny cheesy vengance :headbang:
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping secrets of silent earth:3 that's one for you progheads, get into it ya elitist fag's :p

Good point, yes.

Sinai Beach - Immersed - this is about the heaviest thing I have heard in a long time. Think Chimaira crossed with Soilwork and Pantera, and a bit of Fear Factory and as well. Christian Metalcore, but damn heavy. The melodic choruses are cool, if there was more clean vocals they would grab me more, but it is interesting all the same. I think Spawn and Southy would be the biggest fans of this.

Stratovarius - Dreamspace

Even if you don't like what you've heard of Stratovarius, you should give this one a go. Has a very Malmsteen feel to it, but with that big bombastic Strato sound and Tolkki on vocals!

The opening track is one of the best metal songs ever.
