Another stab at Only

What would be considered 'great?' if he had a voice implant to make it sound EXACTLY like John did it in the studio? This is not THAT far off. It's not drastically different than John. Does it sound exactly like John? No of course not. I have heard John butcher old Joey songs to death but you don't seem to care about that?

I think Joey does a better job singing Johns songs than John did singing Joeys songs. Joey does have range, and can be diverse in what he sings. John is going to sound like John, he has minimal range and can't do many dynamic things with his voice. Joey can sing Rush, then go sing Dio, then Journey and then sing John Bush songs. John could never pull that off.

At some point you are going to have to just accept that Joey IS the new vocalist for Anthrax and if you want to hear the John Bush era songs live this is what they will sound like. Even though I don't like this song it doesn't sound THAT far different than the original, especially live.

And yes this mcmedia sounds like my twin. i may have a mancrush!

Mellow out Sally, no need to get your panties in a bunch.

He seems to still be struggling with it trying to find his voice. Nowhere did I say he needs to sound like John, I don't expect him too, if that's what you think I was saying then you're reading into shit way too much. And for the record, I accepted the fact that Joey IS the vocalist, again, nowhere did I say in that post I want John or Dan or David fucking Hasselhoff to sing in the band. Do I have to like the fact that Joey's the singer, fuck no. And if I want to hear Bush era songs live I just have to put on Music Of Mass Destruction.

Joey should stick with Journey tunes

Jonnie does this mean you may actually go see them live, or do you still hate Joey so much that you wouldn't go see them live? This may be ground breaking here!

I DID go see them live (Sonisphere) and it was awful, vocalwise. That's why I'm saying he's getting better at it.

I concur. After seeing his first vox on this some months ago, I didn't think he could do it. He can; he does; in his own voice, now....not trying to emulate the Bush version.

Is it good? It's OK. Not great. Bush does it better. But at least he's trying to sound decent.

I thought it sounded ok. Better than his earlier performances of this song. I just really want to hear new material. Not likely for this tour since they're opening, but soon, hopefully.

they could have released "Warship Music" when Nelson still was in the band, it was already finished. Nelson was nothing but a makeshift and i can imagine that the re-recording of the vocals was planned from the beginning but they would have prefered to record Bush's vocals for the album, now they do it with Joey.

Hes still singing the wrong words at times. How hard is it to learn a song?

lol ya, so much for professionalism. how hard is it to learn one song in almost 20 yrs? but i bet if they played Who's Cryin' Now, Don't Stop Believin', and Open Arms he would nail it, get the lyrics right, sing right notes or just sound decent. Really think i'd rather hear courtney love sing this, ONLY way it could get any worse is if backstreet boys sang it and not sure about that. Sown was one of their best albums and arguementively better even than PoT, depends on who you ask but still john learned all that shit and tried to honor it.(A true professional and musician). Joey isn't even trying if trying anything is to mock it. really atleast show alittle respect.

That sounded way worse than the first low quality youtube clip of him singing it. Actually laughable. Makes me cringe. No taste at all, putting in wierd opera runs where they don't belong. Oh well.

As far as us not caring when John supposedly butchered Joey's stuff - wrong. Joey's vocals weren't that great to begin with and I prefered John's voice singing them. I never viewed it as butchering, I viewed it as an improvement. And you cannot honestly say that Joey improved the song here.

A lot of John Bush fans think John improved the Joey stuff. But even the Joey fans can't say the same about Joey doing John.

I don't care who sings the John Bush era songs. They songs themselves are sub par. The only way to make those songs sound good would be to change the entire structure of the songs, add faster thrash riffs, throw in some fast drumming, double bass, crunchier guitar etc. Then after the entire song was almost not recognizable and sounded like what you would expect from Anthrax you could experiment with vocalists.

There is not one single Joey era song that I think John Bush does better than Joey. Of course you will say that if you have a boner for John Bush. But Joey sang those songs originally, thats how those songs are supposed to sound, that is how we all know them. The "Opera" sound is a joke of sorts and when you see them live you will get it.

I don't like the song Only no matter who sings it. Joey could have a voice implant to sound just like John and I would still not like that song.

Its hard to judge Joey by one song, lets hear him do What Doesn't Die, Crush or Room For One More then we'll See. But I must agree, I do prefer Bush on some of the older material especially the Neil Turbin stuff.

Yeah because thrash metal is the ONLY kind of music that's worth listening to.

That, and gay journey tribute cover songs, apparently.
