I ride MTB, and just made adjustments to my rear derailleur and it skips a gear from 6 to 8. that said, I hit top speed and tried a little off road and hit a hole in the ground. My face hurts and it was awesome, now how do I properly set this bitch up? I use Shimano trigger shift and components. it's a Mongoose dual suspension POS, but it's great for my area.

Play around with the top limit adjuster on the derailleur, I'm guessing when in the highest gear the derailleur moves a little too far.

I ride road, fixed and a single speed dirt jump bikes, we should have a post your ride thread.

If you mean it goes from 6 to 8 skipping 7, i would guess the problem is in the spring that moves the mechanism too slowly at that position - you set it for 7 and nothing happens (yet) so you set it for 8 and only then it begins to move and when it already moves, it goes to all the way to 8.

I would detach the derailleur and clean the spring under hot water to remove any tiny mud amount that stuck to the spring, then put some lubrication on it to make it move more smoothly.

I am doing about 20 to 40 km forest path/city park alley rides almost every day for fun and for health - ODO about 700 km this season already.
