Any Porcupine Tree fans?

i think thats my problem with them
they never really get ANYTHING enough for my tastes, let alone heavy enough.
theres hints of beautiful ambience, sweet riffs, nice grooves, good lyrics here and there, moments of sublime tenderness and sections of ball crushing heaviness but it's all too self-obsessed with seeming progressive that it has an inverse effect and just seems boring.

imagine if he went constantly to extremes, it would be far less coherent but so much more INTERESTING, and isn't that what prog's supposed to be? interesting?

Hum I really don't agree on the case of steven wilson. Fact is that he has a strong pop side in the last album (albumS maybe), for me that is not a bad thing. The last one is one of my favourites. Anesthetize is a killer song, the selftitled too (the first one). Someone earlier said the ballads are not interesting but I really find them well written. . It's a bit less "prog" than the earlier stuff but even if some would say 'more commercial', I really digged that album like the others. But besides the fact i "liked" it myself, I really think it's an interesting album, and I don't think Wilson is average in all he does. It's sure his riffs are not nile's one. I'm also one of those who prefers when he doesn't sound "metal", but anyway the metal part of Anesthetize are, in my own opinion, really cool. There are a lot of "metal" bands that sound flatter to my ears (a lot of recent us metal bands especially).

I still can understand this is not a band you dig. And also you feel it "average in everything" but that somewhere I don't agree. It took me ages to like wilson, and I could have went on not liking it too much. There are some bands I don't understand too !
