Any Tips On Sweeps??

Buy John Petrucci's Rock Discipline and learn all the sweep excersices on there to perfection, no previous sweeping experience is needed for these excersices. And always practice with a metronome.

id say start off with the three stringed minor and diminshed arpeggiosm then go on to the 5 and six string majors and then 5 and six string minors.

I have that DVD. Im just trying to learn all the alternate picking stuff before I move onto sweeps, I just want to get tips, so when I do start to learn sweeps, I'll make sure I keep track of things more carefully.

i second that. rhythm guitarists are so underrated. look at steve smyth, marcus siepen, glen dover
steve smyth can still rip it up though. guys like jeff loomis' rhythm chops are on par with his lead chops, which is to say he's tremendous at both.

how long have you been playing? and are your rhythm chops up to par? rhythm is far more important than lead work.

Its quite possible you are one of the smartest people alive.

no one realizes that when they learn guitar, and they just go for the gusto and think they are going to learn everything they need to know from learning lead... nothing annoys me more than a kid with no rhythm who thinks he can play lead and it sounds like a broken record player with a dying motor.
