Anyone Else Feel Like This Forum has .....

Alright guys! let's relax shall we :p
I get both sides, and I do think you haven't stated your point clearly GuitarGuru. I can agree, that some moderation, or guideline needs to be set for those "paid job, contest" etc threads and so on, because they do cause issues and they crop up pretty darn often. But again, like Ermz said, just let people do what they want. Because most of those posts are really noobz etc asking, you'll find that more serious bands and those who've learned from this shit, won't actually attempt it after realising it's unrealistic and unproductive.

So just try to look past it man, it's the best you can do!

It has got a bit mad over the last year, probably because the sites google rank is through the roof. I always find it important to remember that there was a time when we were all noobs though, and there is always so much to learn for all of us. Back to the point, I'm not quite sure Andy's forum should be used to traffic mix jobs anyway, I think it should be banned. The way I see it, the protocol should be for the client to PM their potential supplier for quotes and go from there, and hell, they can check people's quality levels out by looking at their previous pretty easily. The best mixers here arent going to sell themselves short by getting involved in a shitty little war that undoubtedly ends in 1,000 PM's flying around, and a set of mixes done for a price that would barely pay for a few loaves of bread. Its not healthy.

Ah, well played Kev. I never thought about it in that light. It's the most sensible solution to this problem I've read.

The mix contests done for fun can still run business as usual, but you really clamp down on the exploitative shit and force the bands to develop a bit more tact with paid work. This way you nurture both the younger members' need to learn, and significantly reduce the platform that bands have to initiate sweat-shop work. I like it.

a ringing +1 to this

Solid post man

I've resorted to listening to Marvin Gaye whilst reading the topics here, it somehow makes all the venom twice as funny.

"You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here todaaaaaay"

even though i started posting on this forum not really knowing anything about recording and posting a dumb thread or two, i have noticed this too. I literally spend all my time on the sneap searchbar looking up every question i have and finding the answer with ease.

tbh, its turning into.... dare i say the name of the most unintelligent and filthy forum in history.... the UG recording forums.....

Ya its pretty fucked up some people would stoop that low. I mean seriously, I am not "known" by any means BUT I do expect get paid for my work if I do something. Of course I have friends that I do shit for free when bored or looking to just practice. But the whole "contest" idea needs to be put to bed. Especially when they post an entire fucking album of shit!

You want to post 1 song fine, I dont see a problem. You want to post an entire album, then GTFO!

Are you talking about my thread??? First of all: My DAW is not cracked. I payed 555€ for Cubase 5 at thomann, as well as I payed for all my other software. Second: Sorry, that I want to give away a job and some money for something I´m not good at. I´m no good at mastering so I want to give it away, and I wanted to do a shootout. If you don´t want our money, then fine. Don´t participate and don´t talk shit. And third: You´re flaming about a thread you don´t even read, because I never posted a "entire fucking album of shit". I POSTED ONE SONG!!! And I have 7 others which are waiting to be mastered. I wanted a example for the mastering and not a free mastering for our album for christ sakes :yell:

And: I don´t have any problem with beeping the master or anything! Even 30 seconds of the song are enough... I don´t want to scam anybody, I want the best result for my bands album, that´s all

Personally, I can't be agitated by these threads. Don't like it? - Don't read it, don't participate, move on - there's work to do. It's not like the forums are exactly clouded by these kind of threads.

But that's probably just my liberal eurofag attitude. ;)

I say continue to make our own decisions whether or not we want to participate. No point in making more rules. That just reminds me of how the government works to protect us from ourselves.

Government in this day and age equates more to "fascist dictatorship" under pretenses of being otherwise.
Having more rules on this forum wouldn't make it more of a "fascist dictatorship" it would just mean less bullshit to sieve through. Less bullshit to sieve through sounds good to me.

And also, seriously Jeff, you're generally a nice guy and all, but what's with the passive-agression lately?

Whatever guitarguru's views are on charging for re-amping, this is a different issue, and one that he is wanting to fix and change for the better of the forum, and you come here and make some sarcastic bullshit remark like that?
There was a time when I'd be totally down with that and be there to back you up with more dickhead remarks to cause more of a mess on this forum, but I got tired of being the other Jesse.
So let's cut the crap and keep this a mature discussion about how to make the forum a nicer environment, yeah?

I'm with you 100% guitarguru.
I have nothing more to add to the discussion currently, I think many people have summed up my viewpoint nice and succinctly as it is.
Just gonna observe from the sidelines for now.

Now I got it why no one left any comment on my mix (real drums stuff),yet there are tons of comments on SSD&POD fagcore...
Looks like i'm late to the party...

^^^ sadly, that's what I'm hating personally. All the mix threads are pod/ axe/ tsx + sd 2/ slate etc... And i want to learn/ comment on "real" mixes. It's a shame
