Please listen to the clips from 3:30 onwards, everything before that is just improv/wank.

I'm wondering whether anybody here is capable of reamping tones of this quality/tonality. Essentially multi-mic, fat tones which carry a lot of weight. If you can, please hit me up via PM with past examples.

Thanks for your time!

You should let me know what you come up with. These tones are phenomenal. That last soldano is crazy, during the palm mutes. Made my head explode.

The pickups probably have a significant effect on the sound. He doesn't mention anything about them, so maybe they were the stock Gibson pickups?

They sound quite hard-rock'ish. I have a Soldano X88R preamp w/Plexi and Recto custom mod which may work for that kind of sound. I have a short clip with a X88R-2:90-Greenbacks 4x12 setup here (Plexi mod on), keep in mind it's got some chorus on it, and that the gain was pretty low.

From what I saw of the videos briefly, two SM57s were used for those tones.

It really has little to do with gear. This is all in the knowledge, feel and ear.

These words are not said often enough around here! Applies to pretty much anything to do with playing an instrument, and any aspect of production, not just guitar tones.

Got a bite from James Lugo this morning. Really excited, can't wait to try out his service.

Will check the clips in here a little later, thanks!

Noice. What kind of music are you getting guitars reamped for may I ask?
James Lugo seems to be one of the more knowledgeable guys on the GS forums.

Thrashy symphonic chick-metal to start, probably followed by a thrashy 80s type deal. So I'm hoping his skills carry over into the metal realm. What I really dig is his focus on mids, while rejecting all the fizz. He seems to have a thing for capturing the better qualities of an amp... or the way you'd imagine hearing it in the room.

I'm exploring a few options at the moment, but it'll be good to throw James in there and see what comes back.

For reference: I think the American Steele set of WCRs includes a Godwood for the bridge position. James' clips really helped me out when choosing an amp. That SLO does sound fucking fantastic. My Avenger sounded good, but that SLO sounds better!

Props to Eddy Apolonia. He pretty much just filled the criteria.

Excited +1!

Eddy "started building my (small) studio" Apolonia?
