Anyone in Europe this summer?

However, we are going to the Vanden Plas Christ 0 rock opera in Munich! AND Andy Kuntz said we can come to the backstage after the show. This is going to be so cool!

Sweet!! Is this just a one-time event, or is it a regular production? I'm planning to travel to Wimbledon in 2009, and I'm also looking at a tour that hits Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich.

Sure, wanted to go. :( Doesn't look financially feasible. After hitting Europe three summers in a row, I'm in serious withdrawel. That's what happens when you get spoiled. Saving already for next year. Let's hope the dollar improves and oil gets back to a nice, "healthy" $99/barrel. :Smug:

Aww :(
I thought I was going to see you there...
But.... We will have some good times somewhere in NY soon, I am sure :)

Hi - I think we met last year at PP  I think this show is just for a limited time (mid-April thru the end of July 2008), which is why I did not hesitate to get those 2nd row center seats. Hopefully you can catch a concert or festival while you are there. I'll let you know how the VP show is!

Yep, we did meet at lunch at Front Page News! :)

Thanks for the info on the show. I hope y'all have a blast -- I'll look forward to a a review when you get back. :kickass:

Travel safe!

When my husband was asked to go to Germany for work, I was hoping it would coincide with one of the many festivals, but it doesn't. However, we are going to the Vanden Plas Christ 0 rock opera in Munich! AND Andy Kuntz said we can come to the backstage after the show. This is going to be so cool!
Lucky you! :) Which date are you seeing? I'm missing it by a few days dammit.. just found and booked a supercheap flight deal to Munich for 21st - 25th of June (99 euros roundtrip from Helsinki!) to go to visit a friend in Stuttgart.. unfortunately those were the only dates working okay with my summer vacation and the other vacation plans so no Vanden Plas for me. At least it does look like I might make it to the Iced Earth/Judas Priest show in Munich the 24th day and that's gonna rock too!

We'll be seeing the June 7th show. Our hotel is within walking distance to the theater, which will be nice. This will be my first time seeing VP in any way. It will definitely be a memorable show, but I will still want to see them playing a real metal show!!

Oh, I see that June 21 is one of the weeks that they skip! THat's too bad. At least you will get to go to one show while on your trip! Hope you have a good time:rock:

I'll be there too (along with my girlfriend Jaimie)! We're getting into Helsinki on the 25th of June and leaving on the 8th of July. When will you be arriving/leaving Paulhua?

I am actually not staying for Tuska... :erk:
I'm just going for the Nightwish, Amorphis, Epica show.. and then, I leave the next day because Mark has a show in the Netherlands on the 27th.
So I get there the 25th.
I'm already making some plans with Aki so we can meet :)

Seeee ya in 1 month :kickass:

I did Keep It True X in April with my friends from Switzerland.

Festival wise hitting
Rocklahoma in Pryor Oklahoma
Headbangers Open Air in Germany - what a lineup!
Wacken Open Air in Germany
Kansas City Power Metal Festival in Kansas City
Midwest Metal Anthem in Chicago, IL
ProgPower USA in Atlanta, GA

Next year due to rising travel costs it looks like probably
Keep It True XII in April
Rocklahoma in July
Kansas City Power Metal Festival (hoping for a second one)
ProgPower (iffy, trying to figure out who Glenn can bring I haven't already seen at least once these days)

I always keep an eye on the Chicago fests and go if the lineup is enough to draw me (Alehorn of Power, Midwest Metal Anthem, Powerfest), and watch the female metal festival in Minneapolis too, but gotta draw the line somewhere on costs. I keep wishing the Chicago Powerfest would have more bands I "need" to see on a regular basis. All the power to them and I know they had a good turnout this year, but I enjoyed going the year Nocturnal Rites, Biomechanical and Agent Steel played. Maybe 2009 the lineup will be more to my liking.

Got back from Germany a couple days ago. The Vanden Plas Christ 0 rock opera was really great! We had great seats 2nd row center but the orch. pit is so low you couldn't see the band at all unless you stood up. They played great and the sound was really good. The opera itself was very entertaining and even though I could not understand the speaking parts that were in German, I really enjoyed it.

It was interesting too look around the audience and see a wide array of people. Many were older people who probably come to all the performances at the theater.

Afterwards, we went up to the "kantine" behind the theater where the performers and workers go to eat afterwards. We met all the VP guys except Andy Kuntz, and talked for a while with Andreas Lill and Gunter Werno - nice guys. They are hoping to come back and play PP in the future - that would be great.

Glad to hear that y'all had a fabulous time! I would *love* to see VP at a future PP if they can get their Visa issues sorted out.

Next weekend: Graspop! I'm really looking forward to it (and I hope it won't rain too much)
