My friend sent me their album Decrowning and I think it's pretty awesome. Anyone know what amps they use? Sounds like a Framus Cobra grind thing going on or recto or something.

Here's a cool song by em-

I once bought a guitar from Silver, the other guitarist. We talked about gear and all kinds of stuff, and he said he's got a 5150 which has never been retubed. Apparently the tubes in it are more than 5 years old!

I don't really listen to them or own their albums, but they're pretty good.

Yep, I've been listening to them since Decrowning came out. I heard their next one is going to be alot different with a new vocalist and all. I hope it will do good things for them.

Oh for fuck's sake.

Amoral has announced their new vocalist, and it's none other than the Finnish Idol winner, Ari "Heavy-Ari" Koivunen. The dude looks and sounds like a 14-year-old IMHO. Here's one of his music videos:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this band is ruined for me.

I have to agree on this one. I found a live clip from somewhere (most probably from muusikoiden.net) where Ari is growling Amorphis song. Imo the growling was horrible.

Edit: Found the clip

Exactly. To be honest, I first heard of this watching a fanmade YouTube video stating Koivunen would be singing for Amoral and thought it was a bad joke. I was pretty surprised when I went to their homepage and found this news article on the frontpage:

25.11.08 - ARI KOIVUNEN JOINS AMORAL
Amoral is a five-piece again! Since the announcement of Niko leaving we’ve received tons of applications from singers all over the world. As we mentioned earlier, we wanted to find a guy who was not only able to handle the growling of the old songs, but who also had a strong melodic voice. Well, little did we know that we’d end up with one of the most talented vocalists around! Ari’s merits as a singer are well known (at least here in Finland), but it might surprise a lot of people that the dude can also growl with the best of them! And the fact remains that he truly was the strongest candidate from all those who applied for the job.

Being the sneaky bastards that we are, we have been writing and practising hard for a long while now while keeping low profile, and we're happy to announce that the material for the 4th Amoral album is just about ready! The recording will start next month and will go on through January. The album should be out before the summer. Of course, we'll keep you guys posted on updates.

Now, before some of you oldschool Amoral maniacs condemn us to hell: No, we're not going power metal on your asses. The trademark riffs are still there. The little quirkiness. The "fuck everybody" attitude. And most importantly, the songs are just as strong as you've come to expect from us. Stronger, actually. You could clearly see on Reptile Ride already that we were eager to push our music to a more melodic direction, and the next natural step was to go all the way with the vocals. This is a new beginning for us, and we truly believe our best work is still ahead of us.

Yours,

-Amoral

It's quite evident the guy can sing (dude looks 15 but he's 24?) But I can hardly fathom his voice doing Niko's old parts.

I'm not going to dismiss it as an absolute joke, you never know, with the rest of Amoral behind him I bet they crank out some badass tunes.

You never know.
