I read Watchers and Odd Thomas. And now I'm reading By The Light Of The Moon. Watchers and Odd Thomas were pretty good. So far By the Light is good but I'm only on chapter 4.

Several years ago, 92 or so, I read a whole bunch of his books back-to-back. I was a fan of his before that, but I realized while reading such a large quantity that he tends to throw the same devices into many of his books. Kind of turned me off of his writing. I still read him occasionally, but I am not as big a fan as I used to be.

I think my favorite by him might be Lightning.

Was watchers with the dog that was smart and a monster of some sort? That was a pretty good one. I read that one back in high school. His books are pretty entertaining. High art, no, put pretty good reads.

That´s funny you have come up with this thread coz yesterday I bought Strange Highways and I´m reading it now. I´ve read the book I believe it´s called Phantoms. About the ancient enemy.

I am trying to read every Dean Koontz and am caught up with most of the last 10-15 years' books and need to catch up with the even older ones.

He does follow a formula and many of the same conventions, but I still highly enjoy his books.

Intensity is probably one of the best ever, if not the best. I loved Odd Thomas. Also, Fear Nothing and Seize the Night kick ass.

Shaun Hutson, Clive Barker, HP Lovecraft, of course Terry Pratchett...:)
yeah i second Lovecraft and Pratchett. Lovecraft is some scary shit if you can get past the dragging on and on. he has a very unique writing style. He tells alot of the stories through letters the characters wrote to friends and family, and things like newspaper articles and police reports. I'm not sure if there's one that he wrote that was not at least 1st person. You can get the full collection of stories from www.arkhamhouse.com , i'd also recommend Niel Gaiman. Stardust ands American Gods are two realy standout ones.
the recently completed Dark Tower series by stephen king is also realy good
