Anyone see Opeth at Download fest??

im glad opeth played at this festival, wish i could have seen them there.
it's very stupid to say that opeth didn' belong there because of other bands..:Smug:

I'm really glad Opeth played at Download, otherwise i wouldn't have seen them. Why would you deny an Opeth fan of seeing them for their first time :P

now all we need is a video rip(hehe, if anyone could manage to get a copy). Interesting note to some of you, i think thats the first time peter has used his vh100r on tour.. he has always used his mesa/marshall/mikes GH100l

At WithFullForce-Festival last year they played at half past 3 in the morning. but the Setlist also contains 4 Songs an they were a really good outro for the festival. theyseem to like doomy songs 'cause they played Deliverance and Judgment's outros sooooo slowly. GREAT!

I just dont think that Opeth fits in that Festival at all. Not with bands like Linkin Park,Korn,Sum41 and Soulfly. Its just wrong.

I agree with Detric a talented Band like Opeth shouldnt have been at that wank fest with a bunch of Nu metalists.

I think only good can come out of showing a bunch of idiot nu-metal fans what real metal is all about..

"Wow those Opeth guys actually had structure and solos to their songs! They really made those other guys look like a bunch of no-talent-ass-clowns! Let us proceed to buying all their CDs and DVDs"

at least I hope that's what happened

Hello, new to this board, but just wanted to add me opinion...

I saw opeth at Download, and must admit they were a MASSIVE dissapointment.....dont get me wrong, i am a huge fan .... having seen Opeth about 5 times live before this was easily the worst time ive witnessed them.
It was just never gonna work with this kinda of "festival atmosphere" .... as you would lose a lot of the intensity that you would otherwise get in a smaller venue, aswell as the feeling and passion that is a must with opeth songs.
The added keyboards over the songs that didnt have keys when recorded, just ruined the songs, almost making them sound over-produced to an extent...i just felt there was no need at all...

Anyway, as i said, i am a massive fan of the band and still am...and i am glad to have seen opeth at a festival so close to home, however, i just felt that opeth and large festivals.....just dont mix.

Sorry to hear about that. I know that the small venue gig they played here in Melbourne was certainly the best one I've ever been to. Perhaps they are just more suited to smaller venues which let them get more personal with the crowd.

Yeah totally....i mean, it was opeth in the end, so it was never gonna be a crap performance, but it was just a major let down....im sure i'll get over it. Oh, i have.
Also, you could kinda get the impression that they, well....Mikael, was slightly pissed off bout the whole "only getting 30minutes" thing.....which i can sympathise with, because if you are wanting to get your music across to a new larger audience...its gonn atake a lot more than a brief half an hour to kinda get opeth's point across, if ya get what i mean.....anyway, im waffling.....

Yeah, especially with the fact that they can only fit an odd 3 songs into that set. Still, with an audience consisting of the bands previously mentioned, I don't think Opeth would have received deserving appraisals in any case.

Let's just wait for the new album and hopefully more international touring to come :)
