Anyone see Opeth at Download fest??

aye agreed. Its such a shame and a disgrace though to have a highly talented band that has worked very hard over the past 10 years or so, ....to be so far down on a bill that see's bands like Sum41 and linkin Park with 2 hour long headlining sets....these bands have everything thought out for them by the record labels....and are musically inept,,, yet are seen as heroes to thousand of people*. tut.

*when i say "people" i mean, fickle pre pubescent twats who think they are "KewL" and rebellious aginst their parents, by listening to what they describe as metal, to the extent where they will buy whatever is classed as "in" and popular at the moment whether they have and talent at all what so ever...i.e. Linkin Park. rant over.

hehe

Aye, ain't that the truth. That's the way it is though... monetary concerns over music, every time.

At the very least Opeth still have their tightly-knit devoted fanbase of metalheads who stick by them through thick and thin. I'd love to have a devoted fanbase as opposed to one acquired through overnight stardom, consisting of said pubescent twats who change favourite bands with the direction of the wind.

amen to that...

On a slightly different note...Opeth stayed at the festival over both the two days....even though they were 2nd on the bill of the first day.....and had no quarms about wondering round and talking to their fans....something i find quite admirable....

One of my friends bumped into mikael as he was on his way to one of the tents to go watch Slayer, hehe ace

I was in England for several days before and several days AFTER the festival.

I only found out about it on my way OUT of england.

That kinda pisses me off, but I likely wouldn't have paid the money to see just Opeth for 30 minutes and have to deal with other smeg for hours and hours.

Some girls from malta said they loved Opeth and had never heard them before, so that was very encouraging.

Even though the festival was full of numetal, Opeth was there to teach people a lesson about music, and to represent. They could never find a crowd that size on their own, and anything that will further their career (and I have no doubt that they will not sell out no matter how many fans they get..) must be a good thing.

Just too bad I missed it! ;)

Also, to anyone that was there....

Did ya notice Martins Bass fall apart? The metal bridge thig that sits above his strings came loose on one side.....and almost fell off.....strange.

And was also shit when the begining of The Drapery Falls was fucked up cos they forgot to turn the PA on.....daft.

Bad performance you say Shadow? Hmm insteresting, thats the first post that has said they wernt top notch. Good thread keep it going. BTW shadow Welcome to Umetal.com opeth forum, May your posting go on forever.

Well....not a bad performance as such...they played fine.....its just that certain "special feeling" that i have when i see them live just wasnt there this time, and i came away feeling slightly at a loss as to why they werent on top form....then i just came to the conclusion as stated in a previous post.....

I dunno, maybe it is JUST me....maybe i was comparing them to the last time i saw them live.....at the Lamentations gig!!! which was unbelievably good!!!!!

I hate drapery falls... they play it so much ive just got to the point where i will not listen to it anymore. There are much better songs to play in my opinion, but thats the "poof song" that everyone seems to like.

Yea I agree, I hate having the Drapery Falls on nearly all live footage I've got by Opeth
