I'm renting some equipment to record my first album. I've got an RME Babyface and it seems to sound fine to me, but I'm wondering if I should rent an Apogee AD16X to use for conversion instead. I'll be using a Peluso condenser into a UA 6176 for vocals, and 1073/sm57 for guitars. I want to know if using the Apogee converter is going to significantly improve the quality of the AD over the Babyface. I will be recording DI's as well.

What do you guys think? It's $80 a week to rent - so I'd rather not waste the $80 if the Apogee isn't going to make a huge difference. I want the best quality possible of course, but 2% wont bother me. 5% would be worth it. Anyone have experience with both RME and Apogee?

Yea, the Apogee has a lot more detail in the low end - and I've only tracked some bass so far. Only problem is now I want to buy one. 6176 rocks on bass as well compared to my pre73/comp54.
