The screen on my Macbook Pro just cracked.
fell on to my Pod X3 Live,
but the impact didn't crack it.
The laptop was open and the screen part of the computer got caught under one of the bars on my pod
and when the lower, much heavier, part of the computer started to be pulled away from the screen
it cracked.
And Apple is asking $750 to replace the screen.
Fuck that!

Bought it from Best Buy after someone bought it, decided they didn't want it, and returned it.

Damn man, that's bad. Reminds me of the time when I had cracked mine. Had itunes open during a quiz, was transferring songs to my ipod when the teacher had walked in. I slammed it shut and realized the ipod got sandwiched and cracked my screen. I could have prevented that from happening if I weren't stoned, though.

Stupid question but could you not just buy another screen and plug it somehow into the laptop until you have 750$ for that?

hey that sucks man... but it's not apple's fault, so you can't expect them to just fix every break that's caused by users... having said that, they have done so for me... it's usually down to having a good relationship with an apple store manager. the one i go to has replaced 2 iPods for me, free of charge... that were broken accidentally.. one by my stepfather, and one by my brother (yep, they weren't even my iPods and he still replaced them). hope you work it out.

Moonlight Seeker: I could if I wanted to. Fortunately, the crack isn't too obtrusive. I can still see a majority of my screen, as the crack stems from the top left part of my screen. It's just more of an annoyance. I plan on saving up about $250 for a screen and just installing it myself.

but almost $800 is ridiculous
I could almost buy one of the new macs with that!
and I can just buy a screen and install it myself for about $300

shit man, that's really bad :/

i've been quite lucky, this macbook pro is quite battered.. covered in scratches, and dents. aside from a few intermittent problems with the 4 and F4 keys, mines been good!

i recommend buy a replacement screen off ebay or something.. you'll need to be quite technically savvy to get through something like a screen replacement on an MBP, but i don't see a reason why you couldn't do it.

What interface do you have? Cuz I haven't had much luck using an external monitor with my macbook pro. I always get noise out of the main outs. Can't wait to get a tower someday.

I pretty much use my Macbook as a desktop, I use a 32" external display and use a USB mouse & keyboard.

yeah bro, use it as a desktop, plug it into a monitor, its how i use mine anyway, and save your money to get a new one, sucks though dude
