therefore, people who can NOT handle alcohol, become AA losers.

My father and step father(rip) were 1 step away from AA, mind you. So pardon me if I become a little weary of your post. :erk:

People in AA are not losers. They're normal people, just like you and me, with the exception that they have a problem with alcohol. Addiction can be a terrible thing.

We all have our demons, Karen. Some bigger and different than others. :)

White russians can be pretty strong. Especially if you have no tolerance built up. I'd maybe ease into it with some mellower more subtle drinks. I wouldn't give up on it too quick. I would say if you had trouble typing and had that up for 25 hours feeling, um, you definitely had an effect. Being massively sleep deprived and being buzzed aren't that far different.

Anyway, I wouldn't totally give up on it, but maybe give it a break and try it again. If it turns out you don't feel like it gives you a pleasant feeling then don't do it, but that's what one of my roommates used to say, and now when he drinks he gets pretty trashed and seems to enjoy it. I think he was just expecting the wrong thing when he started drinking.

Sorry to hear about that boss. I've known many good people who ended up in AA, and I feel sad for their problem. I guess some people are just too intolerant of other peoples problems and automatically dismiss them as "losers" because they can't identify with that. Now THAT Nazi attitude is pretty sad.

oh good lord, I dont have a NAZI attitude.... give it a rest.

I'm sorry but 99% of the AA people I know are mid aged, live with their parents, have no jobs, become born agains, and then they just get addicted to AA itself...
sorry: I dont see them in a pretty light and thats my right!

Brett- I didn't mean to insult your father and uncle, I'm sorry.

Just to make the original poster feel better-
When I first drank, I was 16. I was at a friend's house, and said friend was having a party. I had three and a half cans of cider. I then ran to the bathroom and vomited profusely. As in, it resembled that scene from the Exorcist. I then passed out with my head against the cool porcelain of the toilet.
I woke up an hour later, still completely smashed. I attempted to take my shoes off, which provided a source of hilarity for the people around me, at least until I was still at it fifteen minutes later, at which point it just seemed really sad. I professed my love for three women, a man, and two goldfish.

I haven't drank cider since then.

 a scene from the exorcist, hehe

All I know is the white russians I had where about half vodka...hehe, our 'barkeep' was a bit sloshy. :dopey:

And about the AA stuff..my dad was in AA and has been there for 15 years. AA is great because it helps certain people break the habit..but EH!!!
I used to go to meetings with my dad (as a little kid), and I've seen how beneficial it is. But AA sometimes becomes a surrogate addiction for alcohol, and I noticed that people use it as a place to pick up dates. Thats just what I've seen locally, though.
I personally dislike our AA because my dad was there more than he was at home, and he met a woman there, which led to cheating and the divorce of my parents.

So yea Karen...I don't like that place either.
People have a tendency to abuse a good thing.
oh yea. AA isn't supposed to be religious. Its meant to be 'spiritual, and when they refer to god or a higher power, you can interpret that in any way you want (aliens, a gopher, etc). but eh, I used to wonder why people couldn't have faith in themselves to get out of alcoholism.

^ I absolutely agree with you Bacchante!
sorry to hear about your dad though... I'm sure it wasn't easy....

AA can be good for some people, you're right,
but most of them become addicted to AA itself OR use "god" as you mentioned
and become religious freaks.

Sorry to hear about the hard times with your dad Bacchante. I have familly members who are close to me who have alcohol problems as well, and I do have a little bit of one myself. I do love the stuff, but every now and then i tend to drink a little too much, I don't over do it too often anymore though. I do however, tend to drink a little too often. It really can help to relaxe me, or just put me in the mood to have a helluvalot of fun, but I wouldn't exactly "recommend" it to people who aren't already fans' of the stuff. I mean, you never know how somebody might take to it, and I have seen PLENTY of people take to it in PLENTY of different ways.

Of course, the best suggestion is that you just do what you feel is right for you. But of course I'm sure you don't need me telling you that, we have had cartoon characters and television stars tell us that our whole lives.

Good deal. I take it you don't post there anymore?

Most definitely not. The administrator was an unfair prejudced *. I devote all my posting time to UM now. Since SOT has finished i'll be looking for new boards to post on and I find the people here so welcoming.
