Ashes Against The Grain

What in the name of fucking fuck are you smoking

If you didn't notice, this album is FAR more metal than "The Mantle"

Yes, which I would describe in the same way as I did this one. Just with less metal moments :)

If you can call The Mantle or Ashes Against The Grain metal albums you are obviously listening to something I am not.

Sure, metal moments. Sure, maybe a good few of them, but not enough to warrant calling them metal.

GET

OUT

not metal as in a thrashin headbangin good time, but metal as in those loosely related genres of stuff that have growly vocals and heavy riffing, and are generally inspired by the former.

jesus christ

not only are you way out in the fields, but you're in the wrong fucking field with an albanian tractor

And it's perfectly fine to not mention YOUR general view of their genre niche, right?

Not really. You don't have much of an argument right now.

Well, considering their earlier output is undeniably (folk influenced) metal, wouldn't it make more sense to say they are metal with post-rock influences rather than the other way around? I listen to plenty of post-rock and while I totally agree there is a lot of post-rock sound in The Mantle's sound, they still do not sound like a post-rock band to me.

They're not a post-rock band. There is definitely some post-rock in their sound. Lots of building up and calming down, lots of climaxes, very epic, very poignant. There is also a very traditional folk sound, despite not using much "traditional instrumentation" (mainly cuz they're American and it'd be weird to use Scandinavian instruments or whatever to play folk). There is some black metal, but not enough to call them black metal at all; they are not minimalistic or raw, nor do they use tremolo riffs to a great extent. I'd say there's a fair bit of doom in there as well, but I would not call them doom either, as they lack the spirit of doom found in many bands (generally exceedingly slow tempos and love of all things doomy). They're kind of a mutt.
