At which point should Anathema start paying Radiohead some royalties?

I guess I'll comment on the band this thread was intended for now, 6 months and a few posts later...

The CD-R I have of Judgement is really really good and I plan on buying it and maybe another of theirs someday.

I really like Tonight's Decision. It's one of those albums I can put on without Haddsie telling me to plug in my headphones.

And it's not like I owe him money, but he did go too far that fucker. I suppose this is different.

Haha. I read some theory about Viva Emptiness that the stupid lyrics are part of the whole mindless theme going on. Then there's the stupid AIM conversation behind the CD tray and the album title and blah blah blah. Whatever, the music rocks and that's what counts.

Actually, said theory might have been posted on this very board, I don't remember. :loco:

I really like Last Fair Deal, and Tonight's Decision is pretty damn good. Viva Emptiness...honestly, I can't get past "Ghost of the Sun." Maybe I'll try starting on track 2 sometime, but I'm still recovering from the last time I was confronted with that mallcore atrocity of a song. UGH.

But yeah, LFDGD and TD = great chill-out music.

Hehe, I reckon VE is better than LFDGD, but it has some Tool/mallcore (what's the difference) tendencies I don't like in the least. "Evidence", "Omerta" and some others are cool. I can listen to the whole thing straight through at least. :p

Puhhh-LEEEEAAAZZZEEE. You've heard one song of theirs, right?

I remember some comparing VE to Tool and I never heard it.

I hear a little Tool in Viva Emptiness for sure. Not a lot, but a little. Maybe it's a vibe thing more than anything else, but people who like Tool might also like VE.

VE is a good starting point for the mallcore crowds in other words.

I don't hear the mallcore (fuckin hate that term anyway), but the Katatonia guys make no secret of being huge Tool/APC fans, so no surprise there. VE isn't quite as good as the ones before it, but it's different again. A different kind of melody. Yea, Evidence/Omerta > rest of album!

So it's been almost 50 minutes and NAD didn't take the bait again. He learned nothing the first time. :tickled:

Oh wait, the sound on the album was digitally stolen from the latest Mudvayne album by Dan Swano at the request of the Katatonia guys.
Mallcore connection = verified.

No you bitch, I cursed your name and walked away from that one, I wasn't getting fooled twice in the same day. :loco:

Side note: I just got completely pwnz0r0red at work by 3 coworkers right now.

 Just curious, but when you curse my name *off-line* so to speak, do you think "JayKeeley" or "Ali"?

I think I just muttered "oh you fucker..." but I normally refer to you as Ali offline. My friends that lurk this forum ask "oh, is that JayKeeley?"

I'm not going to deny that there are some hints of mallcore or that the riffs occasionally sound like Tool on VE, but I think they're used in the most tasteful way possible (I especially like the way it pairs the dissonant guitars with the melodic ones), and the album is far from sellout territory.

I think Katatonia sold out when they asked Jason Priestly to promote their merchandise.
