Steve, you've mentioned using this with the close dynamic mic in your lead sound (and possibly elsewhere, but I've forgotten where), what else have you used this on? I'm looking to get a condenser for vocals (growly and clean vocals), acoustics, and some electric work and I've been told to look these up, but since I'm on a budget I like researching.

Hey Jeff,

Sorry for the delay in answering here, been traveling as of lately again.

What I did do with this mic, was to use it for a room mic for rhythm and lead ambient tones, on The EssenEss Project album, also for a close mic for 6 and 12 string acoustic, and I have tried it for vox as well, though I'm not going to post that as example.

For the room mic situation, I put a 57 up close on the cone, and placed the 3035 about 2-3 ft. behind the 57, and maybe 4-6 inches to the left or right of that. The results varied and in mix, this was more of a blend of the two mics, rather than a main tone or anything like that.

As close mic'd acoustic, I just put this one up near the bridge, or anywhere between the 7th and 12th frets, pretty much dead on, to capture the 6 or 12 string sound I wanted.

For a vocal mic, I thought it worked pretty well. I was just doing it for some demos of a project I am working on currently, nothing I will share just yet, but I thought the results were pretty good overall, as long as I used the low end cut feature on the mic, and padded it for -10db, all sonded pretty good. That one, you'll have to take my word for, for now.

I hope anything I said on here, helps somehow! Obviously, if you're in a position to try one out, I would reccomend doing so, to see what the mic can do. But, for the money, it is a great mic!

The EssenEss Project, we're at work getting the last business ends together, and should be able to announce an official release date for it very soon here! I hope to post that info in The EssenEss Project forum very soon here! Stay tuned!:headbang:

I'll wait for that release, hopefully I'll hear more out of that mic (subtleties should be a little more open in that than in TGE, that mix is too dense for me to tell much of anything) when that's out.

Eaeolian, what kind of vocals?

I generally wind up more in the territory of Mikael Stanne than that (on cleans and growls) but that's a good indication - I don't notice as much coloration or brightening as I do on the usual dynamics, which is a plus.

When you say it handles loud singers well, do you mean that it doesn't clip or pop at high volumes, is it very sensitive to wide dynamic ranges, do higher volumes bring it alive... all of the above? That's also somewhat important - I'm a wee bit loud.

Thanks for your help, I'm getting to the point of getting the money taken care of and all of that fun stuff.

Well, it's a condenser, so you'd expect that. ;) I did some growls on it as a test and they came through very well.

Nick's the loudest singer I've ever dealt with, and he couldn't clip it. Get yourself one of those metal mesh pop filters (which is what we used) and you should be fine - it didn't clip on the SNARE, and definitely sounds better the harder you hit it. The dynamic range is pretty good, too. Overall, it's a pretty useful cheap condenser.

Not a problem. I've been very pleased with the mic so far.
