Hi guys!

So I've been thinking about this for a long time and can't quite figure it out. How do you go about "adding atmosphere" to your tracks? I like the close up and in your face metal as much as any guy, but there is always something special when you hear some sort of atmosphere in the music (think Gorguts - Colored Sands). I've heard mentions of using electro-acoustics in getting some crazy atmosphere in songs, like pitched and revered sinewaves in the background. But I'm not entirely sure how yo approach this myself.

Please share your experiences, thoughts and ideas on this matter.

Cheers!

we have used some atmosphere pads from keyboards and synthesizers. Also we have recorded our own samples. For example water dropping on a dish in the sink, nails scratching glass or good one we did was a feedback loop of Convolution reverb that used cymbal sample as a IR - result was very echoish, metallic type of feedback.
