Audio Encoding Tools

I use Xrecode:

http://xrecode.com/

It is shareware so annoying banner till you pay. But it is only $19 to buy, cry me a river.

Does all the major formats and it will start multiple thread to maximize your multi-core/hyperthreaded CPU. I encode entire albums worth of mixes in seconds.

When I do archiving I have started using Wavpack to compress the raw audio files lossless. Xrecode fires up all my cores and gets it done way way faster than before.

It does all the metadata and everything. Although for me I use a naming convention and some scripts with id3tool.

The only ding against it is that it is Windows only.

For mac and linux, I use ffmpeg, wavpack, and lame directly. In windows I use r8brain from voxengo. Free for limited use, but cheap for more features and batch conversion.
