im considerin something from aperion (i appreciate their business model and total lack of snobbery) like the 4T "towers" or the Verus grand bookshelves. Also polk is in the running as is B&W 685.

Anyone have any headphones from HiFiMan?

Yea, I have the RE-Zero (not the RE0). Not the best for metal but phenomenal performance for the price and good with acoustic/natural music. Very detailed, great highs, but not the the authority when it comes to bass.

As for speakers, try checking out either Polk or PSB. The Polk would be more fitting for your musical criteria I would think.

I obviously didnt order my speakers today....but the reason is I came across some extra cash that I wasn't expecting and it might induce me to increase my budget from $600 to....something higher. We'll see.
