Australian metal bands appreciation thread.

Of course i enjoy Heavy Metal from all over the world but how bout a thread to apprecaite the past, present and future talents of the Australian metal scene as of course this forum is dominated by Aussies. It may also put some of you overseas fans onto some gems you've not ever checked out before.
We have one of the hardest Metal scene's in the world to break out of so the bands that rise above it here really have something special.
I'll start with a couple of my favs:

EYEFEAR (melb)
Slick and awesome Progressive Metal that has one of the most powerful vocalists i've ever heard.

VOYAGER (perth)
Quite a few people walk out after a VOYAGER show and mutter the words "that's one of the best bands i've ever seen". That pretty much sums them up.Check em' out!

LORD (sydney)
For many years DUNGEON were the premier Australian Power Metal band and an act that i saw live and followed as a fan many many times. There aren't too many people more talented than frontman Lord Tim here and his new incarnation of the band is LORD and they have continued on and still set the standard today for Australian Power Metal.

TALIESIN (canberra)
The best aussie prog band you've never heard of. Only recently discovered these guys who have surprisingly been around for a long time but have amassed very little of a profile here. Regardless they are extremely talented and a band worth the effort of unearthing.

ANTONAMASIA (Sydney)
Australia's leading female-fronted metal band. Fusing Gothic Metal with the band's Metalcore influences makes for a pleasant but hard-hitting twist on your normal beauty and the beast metal. After releasing their debut EP "Keeping Nothing" in 2006 with a great response, we are eagerly awaiting their first full-length that is bound to surpass their EP.

+1, great band! :)

I'd like to nominate Platinum Brunette, not only 'cos I just joined the band as the guitarist (HAHA) but 'cos Juz really has something cool going on with it and it has a lot of potential! Look out for an updated website soon (I'll come back and edit this post then) and a new album within the next couple of months! :)

HAHAHA! Um, yes. HAHA!

I did make a promise to Juz that any help he needed with anything I would do... well, that's what you get for staying true to your promises, hey? HAHA!

Nah, this will be a fucking cack, I reckon! :p

Ruins, Ruins, and Ruins....These guys are awesome! And they are great live too imo... To me they are really unique and stand out heaps among other bands that play similar styles.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone wear white hitops with a dress before.

You're....you're definitely a pioneer, aren't you Tim?

Friar Rush
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=63642364
With the exception of Dream Theater who sit on a pedestal above all other mortal musicians, Friar Rush are right up there with my favourite prog and prog/power bands. Brilliant songwriting and impeccable melodic sensibility meets metal with mesmerising results.

Dreadnaught
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=72654761
Imagine AC/DC or Rose Tattoo cranked up to 11 and you have some idea what to expect, although such comparisons do their sound no justice.

Psycroptic
http://www.myspace.com/psycroptic
Technical death metal which should appeal to fans of bands like Nile and Behemoth.

The Berzerker
http://www.theberzerker.com/
A bit more of an acquired taste than the above mentioned bands but worth the effort if you're after something different. Death metal / grindcore / techno hybrid which is guaranteed to piss your neighbours off.

...and a couple 'unsigned' gems:

This World
http://www.myspace.com/thisworldband
About as brutal as a band can get without going into death/black territory. A satisfying blend of Pantera attitude and agression, Meshuggah oddness and heaviness. The quality of their material is improving at an impressive pace as well.

Flatstick
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=54169966
They are to Faith No More what Biomechanical are to Pantera. Crazy, diverse, creative and most of all heavy, with some of the best guitar solos to ever come out of Australia.

In Malice's Wake - The best thrash band in Australia by a mile, and a fucking killer live band. www.myspace.com/inmaliceswake

'neath - fantastic progressive death metal, first release was very similar to Opeth but they've branched out a bit on their newie. www.myspace.com/neathmusic

Aronora - prog metal/rock, a really new band but I'm really looking forward to seeing their debut show tomorrow night. http://www.myspace.com/aronoramusic

Aphotic Dawn - excellent technical death metal band, not only are they incredible musicians (drummer and bassist are both from Ne Obliviscaris) but their music isn't so wanky that it loses it's balls. http://www.myspace.com/aphoticdawn
