Auto Racing

You should go up to Road America and check out the June Sprints this year John. It's a good time because it's all amateur racers in all kinds of different cars. Plus Road America is beautiful!

I'd like to, hopefully in a couple months, time won't be the enemy it has been so far this year. I can't believe it's nearly May. I have a neighbor who races, don't know enough about what class/league he's in, but he's had some good years. He's also a damn good mechanic! :)

Has anybody heard any more about what the "suspended three-race ban" that has been levied against McLaren means?

NM. Found it myself. Here's what it means:

The FIA added that the three-race ban would only be activited if the team breached the sporting code again over the next 12 months or fresh evidence connected to the case emerged.

FIA was actually nice to McLaren given some of the possible punishments could've been. I think this will teach McLaren for next time.

Also, does anyone think Ferrari will comeback this year? I don't see them scoring anything better than a 5th place on the Constructors Championship this year. I love Massa (yea, the Brazilian connection), but I doubt they'll live it up to the expectations.

As far as the title, I think it's in between Button, Barrichello and Vettel.

I'm loving it this year, finally a change in the first few front rows!!!

I wish they would have come down hard on McLaren. I am tired of them getting away with crap year after year.

I am the biggest Ferrari team fan you will find and unfortunately, I will have to say no. The team has NO clue what so ever this year on what they are doing since Russ Brawn left. They will be lucky to finish 5th in the Constructor's Championship the way this season is going so far. 2 frigging points so far after 4 races...just pitiful. Massa and Kimi are too talented of drivers for this crap. Ferrari needs to get their $hit straight and soon...

I think it is between Button and Vettel myself. Rubbens will be hanging around in 3rd or 4th because of the car he drives but he won;t contend.

Anybody else here into sim racing? My favorites are Grand Prix Legends (even though it's 11 years old, it's still one of the best), and rFactor.

I like iRacing too, but I won't resubscribe until them have a full sports car progression. The way it is now, if you're a road racer, you have to do some open-wheel. I don't want to do open-wheel. Of course, if you want open-wheel, you can't do strictly open-wheel either. You have to do sports cars at some point. The roundy track drivers don't have to worry about that though. I also like that you can be racing against RL racers. I was in a race with A.J. Allmendinger once. I know some people who have raced with Jr. Here's a video comparing iracing's Infineon to RL Infineon in a Spec Racer Ford:

Anyone watch this years Indy 500? .... It was an excellent race... Helio Castronevas ran a great race... Danica did too but she never seems to have the speed finish...

I had only heard of 4 new teams, which would make 14.
Prodrive/Aston Martin
USGPE (formerly USF1)
Lola
Campos Racing.

You forgot Litespeed, which makes it 15. I wonder if any of these will actually do anything worth our attention next year. Then again, look at Brawn GP.

And March and one other new team. Apparently, 17 teams have thrown their hats in, but FIA has stated that there will only be 13 teams next year. It may be interesting how that works out. I'm not sure why they wouldn't want all 17 teams. Can you image 34 cars on the grid? I'm sure the reason is money. Everything is about money when you're talking about Bernie Ecclestone.

I agree. I think 13 teams is enough. If I could pick, I'd like to see ProDrive in the F1 just because I'd like to see what an Aston Martin engine could do in the F1. I am not a big fan of the idea of USGP desiring to create a 100% American team (All American crew, motors, parts, etc). That wouldn't work. I understand, it's the whole "I want to be patriotic and show the world my country can be the best even at F1," but that's not what F1 is all about. There's already a category out there that is based on countries, not teams if I'm not wrong. And if history serves me right, there was never a competitive American F1 driver, so they have the odds against them already. If they do make it though, I'd love to see them break this "rule".

Dan Gurney - American car, American driver. English engine, but USF1 won't be using an American engine either. BTW, Peter Windsor is not American.

I expect ProDrive, USGPE and Lola will be the teams that get in. ProDrive and Lola have proven that they can do what it takes to be competitive at the highest levels of professional racing. I think USGPE has already gotten FIA's buy in, and FIA wouldn't do that unless they thought USGPE was doing it right.

Wow... in a surprising twist of events, another Ex champion team has officially announced they're back in 2010.

Remember Brabham? Yep. They're back.
