automating stage lighting via midi?

Am I retarded for thinking that I can somehow control lights via MIDI with Cubase, or any DAW for that matter?

My band does this. MIDI track in Pro Tools, to an Elation DMX controller (which has a MIDI input, of course). The controller has all the scenes programmed, and the MIDI data just tells it to change to whatever scene we want.

Yes this is quite easy to do,

First you just have to programe the midi data into a midi track and route this to your midi output of your interface then route this to a midi to dmx converter then hook up your lights via dmx
