i read this earlier this morning.

i have some friends that work(ed) for avid (audio) and a lifetime ago, i worked at digidesign. this is truly sad to hear. inmusic is a decent parent company to hardware manufacturers like akai and alesis but i don't really know if they have the wherewithal to produce outstanding products for (what was once) pro tools.

...i guess, i don't really know how i feel. what are your thoughts?

**edit** i do realize that m-audio isn't necessarily "pro tools" but i think we can jump the gun a little and assume that the state of the company is in wretched form. or maybe they are just trimming the fat a little? i don't know.

From what I read this morning, they are cutting everything that is non-professionals oriented in the company, so that they can re-concentrate fully on the pro market which is 85 or 90% of their investment anyway (and the most profitable I suppose).

I consider this a good thing actually, and I'm an M-Audio user myself. There are fuck-tons of cheap software packages for beginners out there, so Avid might as well keep Pro Tools a... well, pro tool.

So I'm assuming this might mean the end of m-powered, good riddance I say, avid need to get their software hierarchy sorted out, there really should just be two versions, regular pro tools 10 and the HD version none of this toolkit business. Somehow I don't think HD users will care if people with the CPTK have a pro tools hd splash screen.
