please name some great modern guitarsounds with the standard Marshall 1960 cabs...

prime example would be Nevermore DHIADW....I'm looking for stuff in that league (not old-school death metal)

No idea. When I read the topic title I thought you were going to post links to such recordings :)

Why do you need them? Looking for some crunchy marshall tone?

well, seems like ALL of my favorites are v30 ....except the DHIADW but that one is so extremely great that I think there MUST be more recordings with those speakers that I like

Its over a decade old and I probably won't get many of you to concur with me on this, but one of my favorite guitar sounds of all-time is Deftones Around the Fur, which is JMP1 > Marshall 9200 power amp > Marshall 1960B. Didn't Meshuggah use 1960s on Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere? Don't forget Heartwork by Carcass as well, but that is not exactly current anymore.

How has no one mentioned Testament's "The Gathering?" It's honestly a tone I'm not overly fond of (too harsh/metallic), but people around here really seem to dig it! Also Children of Bodom, specifically "Are You Dead Yet?" (IMO by far the best production, including guitar tone, of all their albums). And lots of Ed's tones that he's posted on here!

I've noticed that a Powerball+1960 creates a tone that cuts through like knife through anything, while with a V30 cabinet, the Powerball sounds far more buried and lifeless. But the problem with the 1960 is that it is just a wee bit lacking in depth and low frequencies, so you need to really emphasize the bass guitar to create some bottom end.

From what I recall he allegedly scammed some guys for cash and then disappeared off the face of the earth. Either that or something happened to him. I've kind of wondered myself over the course of time.

Maybe not metal like Nevermore, but Full Blown Chaos's Wake The Demons album (tracked and mixed by Zeuss) has some killer5150/1960 tones in it, IMO...Actually sounds quite a bit different than most 5150 tones you hear these days.
