OK, let me start of telling this isn't your everyday Metal album. Don't buy it thinking it's a plain hard rockin' album to play on a car trip. It's a very intense rock opera, you need to sit down , take the text booklet at hand and enjoy the trip... the concept of this CD is a guy that's in a coma after a car accident. The album has a lot of different very good vocalists, most from very known bands , that each perform a certain feeling or person, like love, passion, agony, wife, best friend ... So often you get upto 5 vocalists or so for one song!! So basically you're reading a book here , with the difference it has an awesome soundtrack. Okay, there's a lot of 'soft' stuff here, but also some intense heavy passages that blow your head off... If you are looking for a straight headbanging metal album you're on the wrong track here, if you wanna hear a very progressive album with some extremely well balanced music pieces, go for it. If you're a bit open minded this is a record all music fans will love , metalhead or not....

:worship: Ayreon rules and this may be the best Ayreon album yet. Good review, this is definitely not for someone wanting a straight forward pounding album. This music is for people who actually enjoy music and real singing. Some of the instrumentation on her is simply awesome and the vocals are really excellent. The real special element is the detailed and amazingly well thought out storyline, which is so realistic and well developed. Each lyric sheet has its own page in the booklet with a related picture in the background. I have the DVD/DCD long digibook and it is such a wonderful package, though probably sold out now. Besides the 2 music CD's, the DVD is also a nice piece that shows how the album was put together, which is surprisingly pretty interesting. Highest recommendation on this one!

It rocks simply cause Devin Townsend (of Strapping Young Lad/his own solo work) does some vocals on this album :D

I think the best way to describe The Human Equation is beautiful. It's not headbanging. Instead, it's flowing, thoughtful, and quietly exhilerating.
