Ayreon - your thoughts?

He makes every singer that he works with sound awsome!

The problem that I have with his stuff is that it sounds the same from disc to disc at times. I remember playing THE for my wife when it first came out and she asked if it was the Ambeon disc....

My favorites are the Ambeon and The Human Equation discs....

Yes, because Opeth fans are usually more open to other kinds of music.
LOL you haven't been to the Opeth forum too much have you?

Great band, but just like most bands, their fans believe they're the second coming and look down on other similar bands as 'imitations'

 the fans on the Opeth forum are the reason I wont go there! As big of a fan I am myself of the music, I cant tolerate the others that post there.

I would definately say the major reason I prefer here is everyone is into such a wide range of bands not only do i get to learn about new things quite easily but there's none of the BS attitudes you get somewhere like that.

As for closed minded people, I find the worst are your really fundamental black metal fans. Wow I've tried having conversations before with those and they flat out reject any other music at all.. very frustrating.

Oh and also your mainstream fans, like the people who think Metallica rules above all and wont hear that there might possibly be something better out there.. It seems they see my black clothing in clubs and bars and pick me out to harrass me about my music tastes if I disagree with them (however politely).

Yes.

Okay, you guys obviously aren't paying attention too well. There are a lot of idiots over there, but many of the other people there have a large taste of music.

Nu-metal and *core don't count.

you mean the ones who visit it when Swanö's forum is slow

Every band has it's close minded fans and to argue about who has the worst or make claims like "Opeth fans are some of the most closeminded people on the planet" makes THIS forum seem like bad place to visit....

Can't you people see this?

Nope, it's true. Opeth fans (not all) are amazingly elitist, and the amusing thing is they are the ones who bitch about other people (read: mainstream music fans) being closeminded.

Obviously this attitude is prevelant in the entire metal scene, but Opeth is one of those bands that seems to attract those types.

no; Children of Bodom fans are the most close minded. I tend to agree with everyone else saying that opeth fans are openminded.
