I like simple, evocative names. The current trend for three or more word band names, often "humerous" is completely fucking gay.

Simple, evocative names work best for me.

It's because it is the utterances of Merlin man; and no one can fuck with Merlin....he has a beard....man.


I already said I basically like one word names (there are always rules to the exception though). But I agree, evocative names are the best:

Candlemass
Esotric
Wormphlegm
Flehsgrind
etc.

I like made up band names too, or names that hint at a larger picture (such as words that relate into a mythology or other concepts).

Ok maybe AN was a bad example but tell me if Arkhon Infaustus is a bad name? Btw, Krisiun sounds good and it's not just because I like them.

Graveland
Kiuas (Finnish name of the stove you have in your sauna)
Korpiklaani (Forest clan, actually in Finnish 'metsä' is a forest and 'korpi' is a deeper forest, like one you would find out in the countryside.)
Strapping Young Lad (Just cleaver )

Though my band is called Bane and Illusion, I'm not a huge fan of the name. I perfered the original I had for it. Demisolace.

Band names I don't like:

Dragonforce (Don't like the band and the name is just took clique)
Farmer Boys (Love the band but the name.... wow.)
Lamb of God (Sort of like Rotting Christ. Names refering to those religious figures always sound ridiculious to me.)
Sonata Arctica (Kind of lame at first glance but if you know what the words mean, where the band is from and their music you see that it makes a lot of sense. I love the band too.)
