I'd be interested to see/hear some bands that you guys would recommend, whether obscure bands from your city/country, or whatever. I'll start with one from my homeland of Australia:

NE OBLIVISCARIS

Amazing band, they are best described as Progressive Black Metal with non-gimmicky violin.

Their EP, the "Aurora Veil", has received amazing (well deserved) reviews, definitely worth checking out.

Also, for you drummers, their drummer has apparently got the "fastest feet in Australia", and I'm inclined to agree.

Absolutely! This man speaks the truth. NeO are ridiculously great. Now all they need is a distribution deal so that us people in the States can get their album for less than $20+. The USD, being what it is today, does not stretch nearly as far as it once did.

As for my recommendation, it really depends on the genre. While some of these recs are more well-known than others, I will go with recs for multiple genres...

Doom: The Living Fields: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=67567437

Also, in going forward with this thread, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide links to their myspace. Many thanks!

there's a few for now

Planet X - Instrumental/Technical/Prog rock. Very Jazz/Fusion sounding. Bought their album "Quantum" a few days ago and have been listening to it almost non-stop.

Alarum - Another Aussie band. Hard to describe... they're certainly quite technical, but with a somewhat alternative metal sound. Dodgy description aside, check them out.

A couple of great ones there. I love Thurisaz (not to be confused with Finland's Turisas)!

Some of my own recommends:

From my home town of Calgary: Divinity (Technical Death Thrash):

Ireland: Primordial (Celtic-Folk/Black Metal). Highly recommended to you GOW fans:

Finland: Spirit Disease (Death Thrash). Esp if you like the heavier angry stuff!

Tunisia. Yes, you heard right! Myrath (Progressive). Excellent band that rivals Symphony-X for talent.
