There is probably another thread just like this somewhere on this forum, there probably will be another one like it shortly hereafter, but for now let's discuss bands that have released something in 2005/2006 that is not mentioned or discussed at large, but deserves some recognition and would be awesome to play at Progpower.

1> Dawnrider - Fate is Calling Part 1 http://www.dawnrider.de/startframe.htm

2> Echo of Dalriada - Jegebonto
Hungarian band, that sings in Hungarian but there is something about the melody and music that makes it still appealing to the ears, despite not understanding the lyrics. If you can get over the Hungarian, it's very cool.

3>Dark Princess Olga Romanova - Without You
This is the russian Epica, at least that was my impression when I first saw her. The songs are the typical goth metal fare reminiscent of Within Temptation and Xandria, etc, etc.

4>Steel Attack - Diabolic Symphony

So good people of Progpower, any gems like Raintime hiding out there that we should check out?

MINDFLOW "Mind over Body"

SUSPYRE The new one to be released on Nightmare Records

POWND Also to be Released on Nightmare

TO-MERA Awesome

I will throw 2 bands into the ring that I'm keeping my eye on. Both have been mentioned by myself & others, but with little fanfare.

Solid Vision - Very talented musicians...probably 2nd only to Dream Theater whom everybody knows owns as far as skill is concerned. Singer has an accent, but I like his style and tone. Their latest "The Hurricane" caught my ear very quickly...spent 2 weeks in my cd player...just couldn't bring myself to take it out. That's rare for me.

Anubis Gate - I want to call them prog metal, but that probably wouldn't cover their style. I hear a cross between Pagan's Mind & Tarot, but maybe that's just me. 2 releases...Purification & A Perfect Forever...both are good. They're in the studio now for their 3rd.

Ummm while I'm at it and speaking of Tarot...if you don't know of them, you should...they've been around awhile. New release later this month.

I'm going to second this. "A Perfect Forever" is an excellent prog-metal album. Complex without going overboard, melodic, chunky...what's not to love? I highly recommend this fine band.

NP: Adagio "Underworld"

They sing in French but I am a HUGE fan of French Power/Prog band MANIGANCE.

Absolutely killer band IMO, the singer is so damn good the foreign vocals dont even bother me a bit. I hum the melodies regardless!

Heres one people should keep an eye out for....

Cool, I would definately play it as soon as possible, it's a very good CD. Has some black metal harsh vocals in some of the songs in the same vein that Ayreon's Day 3 pain has(not in all songs), as well as some proggy keyboards. The power metal is there in full force. Also some female gothic metal inspired vocals on some tracks. I would say it's truely a sleeper hit.

Of all the types of threads that show up on this forum...I probably like this type the best. There's always some band that is kicking somebody's ass that someone else has never heard of or at least given a thought to.

I'm afraid l beat ya to the punch on that band...glad you like em too

Hibria - these guys kick my ass two or three time over!
At Vance - they're rarely ever talked about here for some reason
Spheric Universe Experience - Mental Torments
Deliverance - Weapons of Our Warfare (this is an old school thrash band that just flat out kicks ass that no one has really heard of)

Ram-Zet - very dark, quirky prog metal with harsh vocals and female mid-range and operatic vocals. They also have a violin player... not classical violin, but "metal" violin. :)

Chaoswave - dark power/thrash metal with some prog elements, with male and female clean vox.

Also Winger. Step one: get over yourselves. Step two: listen to Pull with an open mind.

Regarding Poisonblack... I had heard them a little bit in the past, but I saw their new video on the Headbangers' Ball last weekend, and I was enthralled. They're on my to-get list.

Regarding Deliverance... I think the Xian thrash band is well-known and well-liked within thrash circles. Now, the OTHER Deliverance, on the other hand... I doubt any of you have ever heard of them. They're a UK power metal band, not Christian or religious at all as far as I know. They sound like shit, but they're awesome. :)

I don't understand the 'negative' connotation with Christian metal bands.

Bands like Crimson Thorn, Lengsel, Paramaecium, Divinefire, etc., all kick ass in their own genres (death, black, doom, power, respectively here).
