Basic drum pattern with bass guitar, please rate

bass sounds good on the highs, but way too much sub-bass in it, it's bouncing all around my headphones. give it a drastic highpass and/or some attenuation on some low freqs to tame that.

What's the bass's signal chain?

edit: am I hearing a heavy reverb on the kick? or is that coming from the bass too? whatever it is it's really unpleasant to my ears

Thanx for the input Slipsy, had a high pass at 79hz on it, now Ive thrown it to 129kz.

The bass signal is this, (please dont laugh).
Its a $9 casino. Yep, a store here had 9 guitars hidden in its store and all 9 were $9! My mate grabbed a left handed 4 string casino bass, which we swapped the strings on it as we are both right handed. Feels funny playing a lefty, but it does the job for now until I can find an Ibanez K5 for sale somewhere. (I am NOT a Korn fan by the way). I have the K7 and its by far the best 7 string I have owned, so I figured the K5 would be pretty similar ....... Anyways,

Bass is straight in to the Mbox2>sansamp plug>Q10>2 instances of EQ3-7band. Trying to achieve a similar result to the Exodus, come Overkill bass tone. I have taken most of the reverb off the kick and the bass as you suggested, think it takes the clutter away. Thanx again for the input.

So heres another go,

It does sound much better, although theoretically 129 hz would be way too high, even 79 is high enough. with 129 hz you're cutting off pretty much every single fundamental note the bass can ring out. Although It does sound good like that, it will probably not fit in a mix as it will be clouded by the guitars or vice-versa due to the frequencies battling.

Could be it was the excessive reverb that was making those huge sub-lows, as a high pass of 79 on the bass shouldn't make so much boom. It could also be that the fundamentals that the 9$ bass gives suck ass, but high-passed and with that sansamp plug and those Eq's it's sounding not bad at all. Maybe give it a shot putting the high pass back lower but without the reverb, see how that goes? Or you could try to get a guitar track on top and see how you can fix them

Btw I'm a total Fieldy hater, but K5 kicks ass

If you really need over 20 bands of EQ, there is something seriously wrong with your EQ:ing skills or then there is something seriously wrong with the bass tracks.

the end result sounds pretty good so I would say the end justifies the means. He might've gone through whatever to get it, but it's good so I won't criticize it. I would if he said "I put it through 20 Eq bands and it still sounds like shit"

Yep, spot on! Thats why I am here. Noob & $9.00 bass = 20+BANDS OF EQ! I think the bass sounds better than some VENOM albums! Im soughta happy with it. :)

OK, thanx again Slipsy, help like this makes you wanna keep going, appreciate it from everyone. Will throw the high pass back as you suggested and can the reverb on the bass. So the K5 lives up to the hype then? Might be my next purchase.

Ok Anssi, here's the screenshot mate, Q10 first then eq7, then eq7 high/low.
Fire away.
