Bass compressors

So i recently told my bass pl;ayer buddy about compression cuz he had never heard of it before and now he wants one so i was looking for suggestions in the under $500 range for a player who is very versatile ranging from slap to light finger shit to fast stuff with a pick.

Pedal or rack?

Is this for live use or studio?

Pedals:

EBS MicroComp, Demeter Compulator, BBE OptoStomp, Maxon CP9+ and Boss LMB-3 (with the Suck, I mean enhance, knob turned off).

From what you said about the player the EBS is probably the best option, both live and studio it's amazing.

The Compulator is the closest you'll get to an LA-2A in pedal form.

Rack mounted:

DBX 166X or 160A - I prefer the 160 in a rack.

It sounds great, it's a standard for a reason. I don't think you'd regret the purchase.
