BASS PLAYER

The caps locks in your post i meant. I haven't really heard the joke, except that Martin Mendez = BASSPLAYER, so i don't know whether i get it or not.

I liked the thread of meanings of Opeth band members where someone made Mendez's name mean 'body being eaten by hair' :tickled:

Something started by Gunhaver, who currently runs opethforum.com. It wasn't meant to piss anyone off, but he might say differently.

He started making sigs that were jokes about the band. He made one that had all the members pictures with their name spelled incorrectly, as most fanboys dont know anything about the band. Instead of putting Martin Mendez, he put "bass player" as a little joke. Well it stuck and now people are chanting it at shows. We all love Mendez, hes such a great musician, but its okay to joke once in a while.

Haver said that a band played at his school once, and all the members were from his school but the bass player. So everyone called him "bass player."

There you have it. Hope that clears it up.

Ah hah ! Thanks.

Aside from TheApostle's post which I would say was pretty accurate... I always thought in general the bass player was the least popular... almost invisible person in a band... especially outside the ubermusicfan freaks like ourselves... Although Sting, Gene Simmons, Les Claypool, or Geddy Lee may have something to say about that..

Baaah:flame:

well, Mendez is fabulous, and i enjoy actually listening to what he plays and not taking him for granted.
but, yeah, the "bass player" thing seems to have arisen from the usual throw-away attitude of most bands and fans.
of course, i use "bass player" to refer to Mendez in only the most respectful sense imaginable.
(he's the only one i needed to get to sign my stub last night... *sigh*...)

I dont know, but there seemed to be way too much yelling last night. I feel bad for Mike and the gang because there was a shitload of random stuff, even in the middle of songs. I couldn't hear some of the things he was saying as well, which pisses me off. I'd spend 25$ to see Mikael do 2 hours of comedy, the music is just a plus :D.

Heh. I didn't even hear that. Kids next to me kept yelling about Slayer and shit. I still don't understand why you would yell out Slayer. Like the band is going to drop their setlist and play a shitty Slayer song. I came to see Opeth, if your here to listen to Slayer, then you bought the wrong fucking ticket.

best had to be when hes like "we're not gonna play any slayer you know why? cuz slayer sucks!....no no i like slayer" or somthing to effect lol...you dont remember when mikes like "im sure my wife wouldnt mind she knows i cant dance" in the begining when he made the comment about partying with the dancers

yeah I heard what he said, but I didn't realize someone yelled "what about your wife?" Props to you for promting the comedic Mike line :D
