Sorry man, I'm not a bass player. I have read elsewhere in this forum that Lars uses heaps of legato and octaves to give the impression of a fretless bass, and that Neil Kernon put the bass very high in the mix...

if you think 7 strings is insane Rob Van Der Loo has a 9 but yea im bearly getting into prog metal sounds spastic ink is nice but i like that appregio sound of lars and Rob

Yeah spiral Architect and Spastic Ink are awesome. Maybe check out Watchtower if you haven't already. They were a major influence for Spastic Ink and the band that Spastic Ink stemmed off from with Ron Jarzombek on guitar...
