Bass Strings for D-Standard?

For a four string set 50-110 would be my choice for D-standard. I've just been using 45-105 sets lately... Partly out of laziness because it's the easiest to find. However, the attack on the low strings definitely pulls a bit sharp, so I have to tune the attack to pitch and the decay goes a bit flat.

Dean Markley makes a 50-110 Blue Steel set that gives a little more string tension. As I recall, these were pretty good and would probably be my preferred choice for D-standard. If Dean Markley is hard to find, Rotosound makes a 50-110 set (Swing Bass 66), but I have not tried the Rotosounds in that gauge.

I've tried 120 and 130 or so for D and they kill the highend a bit, sound duller than the thinner ones. The tension was great, though.

I'd try 115. Or just 110 and melodyne afterwards.

thanks, yup that's what I used last time, loved them to bits, but hated them after about 3-4hrs

we'll only have 2 sets (budget), so all the bass will have to be recorded in one day ;)

Some of you guys are using the 135 string for the D?? I've been using 135 for the low A of my 5 string and I'm thinking of going back to normal 130 because it just sounds flabby and crappy.

I used a 45-135 on my 5 to get G standard once... ... what an experiance that was...
