Bassists with the best tone

His bass-play isn't even his greatest asset. He knows how to compose. If it had been him in charge of writing most of the new Cynic, it would have turned out better.
Turned out better as in more awesome? :p I will concede that the songwriting is the weakest part of Cynic. They vocoders are awesome, and really contribute to the spacey atmosphere, but with better songwriting, it could have been so much more.

The vocoders fucking suck on CD, Evolutionary Sleeper sounds about five MILLION times better live...

Totally agree. Less robotic vocals do better on Cynic. Even on the album version there's a sudden cut which didn't like me so much (just before the chorus).

About Malone... on Traced in Air he was lazy as hell. the basslines are uninspired. On Focus he did an amazing job, but now he recorded something very floppy for his standards (maybe he didn't have the time to do something really interesting, I dunno).

I like his bass tune specially on Gordian Knot and Aghora's S/T.

Jeroen Thorendal have a nice bass tune and the Ne Obliviscaris bassist too.

The only DiGiorgio performance of any significance is to be found on Severed Survival. He overplays on everything else.

I hate his bass tone and besides that it's just to loud and because of the tone it's a bad thing. Severed Survival would be perfect otherwise.

DiGiorgio is really really good on Human, just you can't hear it very well apart from the solo in Cosmic Sea, which rapes very very hard. I've always thought he was a little bit too loud on ITP, but I think he makes up for that with stupidly good playing.

lol, Cosmic Sea is the only track DiGiorgio didn't play on. Scott Carino who was the new Death bassist for all of half a nano second played on that track.
