Well then your comments are quite shocking mon amis!

There are 2 'straightforward' power metal songs on the new album: "spread your fire" and "temple of hate". Not sure how any of the rest of the album sounds like "plain power metal" unless the sounds of brazilian flamenco, string quartets, piano, and tribal drums are all used by bands like Hammerfall.

Temple of Shadows > Rebirth > all other Angra

Although, I really don't like Andre Matos at all, so Holy Land could be ok if they re-did the vocals with Edu (who may as well be the new Bruce Dickinson IMO).

I've heard 7 songs of the album , but I don't like it really .
And I prefer Matos over Edu (total gayness ) so it'll be :
Fireworks > Holy Land > Angel's Cry > Rebirth .
I'm pretty alone in the Fireworks liking but Holy Land is considered as their best if you don't hate Matos :) . I was thinking Stratovarius more than Hammerfall about the 'power-metal' and it's also about the drummer , their former was infinitely better (not technically)and got a less power-metal sound , with less systematic double bass . The new bass/drum combo is heavier and less subtile though it works quite good on Rebirth , well the whole band is like that , 'Edu' is more accesible than Matos (so it lost its charm methinks) and 'Nothing To Say' (Holy Land's 2nd track) is not a heavy/speed track ala 'Nova Era' (Rebirth 2nd) or the track with Kai Hansen on guest vocals , can't remember the name .
Of course , Nova Era remains a decent song because Kiko & Rafael kill everybody in the solo departement .
Concerning Fireworks , it's their most ambitious work with not a single classic 'speed' track , even not 'Speed' :loco: .
Maybe it's because it's my first or one of the first metal albums but Fireworks is really unique , I can't think of any genre to categorize this exactly even though it ranges in the heavy-prog shelve (?) , it has its own charm with tracks as : Petrified Eyes , Mystery Machine , Extreme Dream or Metal Icarus . I find this album very sad , contrasting with their others . I'll admit to be 101% biased cause i've just listened to the song Fireworks which moved me , whereas anybody would say it's dull and gay (yes it is but I can't help myself ;)).

Summoning all the way (ASHEN COLD RULES at top volume only :worship: )

Fair enough, at least you've thought it through, although I stand by my disdain towards Matos. I think it was his squealing on "Wuthering Heights" that finally klilled me off.

Although still a bit sad how people can like something one day and then find themselves never liking it again....evolving tastes are natural, but why not 'accumulate' rather than 'replace and dismiss'? Oh well, that's another whole discussion. :loco:

I don't dismiss the first 3 1/2 , they still rule but I have no interest in them anymore ( I didn't play any for 3 years ) so I can't keep any
