From my point of view, a simple composition may sometimes be better than a complex one. If a band is very technical but lacks originality it may not be worthy. One thing is sure: the beatles created musical tendencies that were followed by many others.
Anyway you are right about those bands that are not acclaimed as they deserve because the fucking mainstream tvs and radios simply ignore them. That sucks
